maybe she's tired?

You haven't really given enough information for anyone to answer this question. Why does she say that she is sleeping so much?

If she is sleeping more than 12 hours a night be concerned. She should be getting about 10 hours a night at her age. If she isn't getting this, she may be feeling sleepy and wanting to take naps in the day.

She could be coming down with a cold or some other virus.

I don't know where you are in the world, but here in England it is cold and miserable, everyone wants to sleep more, its natural to become more lethargic in winter.

If you cannot explain, or are worried about her sleeping take her to the doctors. There are a long list for why someone may sleep more or less, and you should get to the bottom of it.

Have you observed her sleep patterns? Is she sleeping non stop all night? Does she have nightgmares? Is her sleep restless? Any disturbing events at home lately (loss of a family member, divorce, etc.)? Does she have a TV set in her room?

if there is no need for your child to be sleepy then it may be a sign of diabetes or in severe cases narcolepsy which is an excessive sleep disorder. check out the source and go to the doctors if you have any more worries

Hopefully your eight year old is not doing drugs as suggested above. I would suggest taking her to the doctor. Have them check her iron level. She may be anemic.

It depends if it seems excessive. Maybe he/she is having trouble sleeping at night, or staying up late?

Please don't treat this lightly!!! That could be cause for concern!!! Keep an eye out for other signs including:

* Seclusive behavior - long periods spent in self imposed isolation.
* Lying and stealing.
* Deteriorating family relationships.
* Changes in behavior and attitude.
* Decrease in school performance.

Drug addiction is a serious problem with today's youth - and active parents is the only cure.

It could be she's depressed or it could be a sign of serious illness, or drugs... Or it could be your kid is just tired...
