Call the local jails or go on line and see if you can find out. If you know who you are looking for, usually you can just call the station where you think they are and ask the desk Sargent.

Call the city and/or county jails, they are required to verify and identify jail inmates, it is public record. This applies to all cities, counties, states. You may be required to write or email for state prison information. Just state the name, age, sex, ethnicity (caucasion, black hispanic etc) and DOB (if possible).
You will be given mail contact info too.
