Medical science has some evidence that hiccups are caused by a reaction to lack of air. Kind of like yawning, you don't just do it because you're sleepy, your body yawns because it needs oxygen. So to keep from having a long drawn out session of hiccups, breathe slowly and deeply to let in air

I've tried just about everything. The sugar, the peanut butter, holding my breath, but what really works for is drinking water from the opposite side of the glass. Fill a glass with water and lean over the sink. Tip the glass away from you with your mouth the side of the glass furthest from you. Now hold your breath and drink. You concentrate so hard on not spilling water, that you forget about your hiccups.

Don't take my advice-
Do a handstand, or try choking yourself with a pillow. You can also try doing a breakdance, I'm sure that works. Or, jump from the top of your roof. That should kill U and the hicups...lol....
Just kidding-
Try drinking plenty of water. That always cures mine.

Drink a large glass of water, and look up as your swallowing. Depending on how bad the hiccups are, you may need to do this for the entire glass.
It works every time.
Here are some other tips (below)

sugar. Take a teaspoon of sugar, then drink lots of water. That never really works for me. Bitters stops them immediately. Bitters is a cooking substance like sherry. I can never find it in the stores, but most bars have it. I don't go to the bars anymore, but, you could call around and ask if they have it. It is very bad tasting. Ask for a shot of bitters, swallow all of it real quick, then drink something afterwords. It works great. Good luck!

Hiccups are a reflex, uncontrollable. The best method is to concentrate on something. I had hics once and a guy got so annoyed he aske dme to name an old timey actress and by time i got through racking my brain to say i can't remember..he said i don't care your hics are gone.

Get a large glass of water and guzzle it until you can't anymore (until you need to catch your breathe). My 10 month olds pediatrician told me to give him his bottle when he got the hiccups. That drinking would take it away and it works.
