well lotsa of nice suggestions listed above me. Especially the Penfolds. personal favorite and well worth the extra few dollars is a small California vineyard named Chappallet. the Merlot will run you around $28 and the Cab around $35. Spend the money. Check them out. I have recommended this vineyard to every owner I have worked for in 22 years of bartending. Never once have I had a negative comment.

Jack London vineyards Kenwood Cabernet. About $30 a bottle. The older the vintages, the pricey they are. I've always enjoyed the flavor.

Pelee Island wine (the one with the red bird on it) it's probably cheaper than $30 even!

Being a bartender, i would have to say it depends on what your eating with it, or if your just drinking it or whatever. But at my bar we serve tons of Bolla Merlot and Bolla Cabernet. But like i said it depends on what it is going to be drank with or without.
