A big question and even I as a Buddhist find it too big for this forum. Basically Buddha taught that we as humans suffer because of our craving for bodily and material things. When we realise the temporary nature of these feelings and eliminate these cravings from our lives then the source of our suffering will be eliminated and we are to do this by following the Noble eightfold Path, by adhering to the 5 Noble Precepts and recognising the 4 Noble Truths. There is far to much more information to pass onto you so I suggest the following site for a far better explanation than I could possibly give to you....

http://www.vipassana.com/resources/

It will explain in plain speech what you need to know and guide you along...a great resource for me...I hope it helps you...

The Buddha taught that humans are in a perpetual state of suffering caused by desire and clinging to materialism. He taught that this suffering can be ended by the adherence to a set of moral precepts aimed at encouraging right thought, right speech and right practice. Through time this leads to a spiritual awakening and the attainment of self knowledge and inner peace.
