I had a consultation with an Invisalign specialist as my front two teeth are little bit out. The doctor said he can straighten them with Invisalign within one year. I thought of having a 2nd opinion and the other doctor said, Invisalign is not for me. I should have transparent braces on the top and it would take 2 years to straighten my teeth. Now I am confused as to which way should i go ? Can any one please suggest me ?

Invisalign only works for a select few individuals out of the many, many patients who could benefit from orthodontic treatment. With that said, the amount of experience that an orthodontist has with Invisalign can make a big difference whether he/she is comfortable using it in borderline cases. With conventional braces, the doctor has the ability to put forces in virtually any direction necessary as your teeth move and your treatment needs change. With Invisalign, the direction of forces is limited. Not having seen your teeth and xrays, I obviously don't know for sure. What I would be cautious of though is a quick/esthetic/easy fix that may only mask your orthodontic problems with a decent esthetic result, but give you teeth/jaw problems down the road. You should also realize that you will probably be in braces for longer than you were told. That's just the way it goes. I hope this helps.

Are you seeing general dentist or orthodontist?? I would ask each Dr you saw how many Invisalign cases they have done. Ask to see before and after pictures. There should be some sort of guarantee with the Invisalign. Sorry I'm not much help.

I've worn braces and invisalign (as a retainer).

The invisalign broke 2 weeks into wearing them! Of course, they were replaced but it put me off them. Whatever braces or invisalign you wear, chances are you will need to wear a retainer afterward at night-time as long as you want your teeth to stay exactly in place. I've done this for 21 years. Years, yes. I looked into veneers but my dentist tells me that wouldn't avoid the shifting, either.

Just something else to consider.

I agree with slapshot above.
Braces will give a better orthodontic result as they have the ability to move the teeth in any direction, and it does not require any compliance from you. Invisalign does not straighten the roots of your teeth, and this could be troublesome in the future.

ivisilign is good but will take much longer than actual braces. I got those transparent braces and they SUCK, they turn yellow and get stained easily. I suggest either get invisilign but it may cost even more than braces, or just suffer with the braces for a while like my sister is doing, she is 21, so don't worry about it.

...not without seeing you.

If an Invisalign certified doctor said he/she could do your case, then it can be done. Perhaps the 2nd opinion doctor is not Invisalign certified.

I'm a nurse. I would go with the first opinon, after all they know what they are doing. Get a third opinon and if the third one matches either opinon chose that one.
