There are a lot of causes, but keeping a headache diary is probably the best way to find out what might be causing it for you personally. There are many common migraine triggers, an no one thing is the cause for everyone. For me, hops is a trigger. For a friend or mine, citrus is. It varies a lot. Some triggers: weather changes, hormonal changes, food sensitivity (msg, nitrates in packaged meat, citrus, aged cheeses... the list goes on), certain smells or fragrances, stress, changes in your sleep cycle, PMS dehydration... There are a lot things that can help. You might want to talk to your family doctor about getting a prescription for an abortive. An abortive will stop the migraine while you are getting an attack. There are a lot of them, and given your age, there might be one that will be safe for you to take. If you can't get a prescription, taking ibuprofen or Excedrine can helpful, although it doesn't always work as well. Ginger is good for the nausea, but it will not do much of anything for the pain. Good luck to you....

There are so many causes of headaches that I can't put them all on here. What tablets did you take? There are different meds out there and each will treat a headache differently. If one does not work, 4-6 hours later, take a different brand and keep going. Excedrin works usually because it is part Tylenol, part Motrin and a little bit of caffeine. If none of these work, you will need to see a dr. It could be tension headaches where you need something stronger, could be migraines, could be... so many things.

Headache is a pain in the head, scalp or neck. Headaches can be
caused by minor problems like eyestrain, lack of coffee or more
serious reasons like head injury, brain tumors, encephalitis and
meningitis. Taking painkillers continuously can have harmful side
effects, so it is better to modify your lifestyle. More information

You have a migraine, not a headache. Go into a quiet, darkened room and lie down for a while. Or take a warm bath with the lights low or off. Then report it to your doctor to prescribe you with a better medication than aspiren.

Causes of headaches can vary. If you have taken 3 doses of a painkiller with no results, I would consult a physician.
Keep in mind that dosages vary by the type of pain medication. For example, one should take no more than 1000 mg. of acetaminophen per dose, and only every 6 hours, for a maximum of 4000 mg per 24-hour period. This maximum dose should only be taken infrequently, because long-term use at the maximum dose is associated with liver damage. Exceeding the maximum dose by only 2 times is also associated with liver damage.
A non-prescription dose of ibuprofen is 200 or 400 mg, taken every 4 to 6 hours. Taken for long periods, large doses of ibuprofen is associated with increased risk of stomach bleeding.
Aspirin can be taken in doses of 325 to 1000 mg, every 6 hours, for a maximum of 8000 mg a day. Higher dosages and frequency should be avoided because aspirin is a blood thinner. (I cut myself after having two days of the maximum dose of aspirin for a massive headache and ended up in the hospital.)
If you get frequent massive headaches, talk to your physician about other pain relief measures or preventative measures you can take.

The number one common cause for headaches are daily hassles. Take excedrin. The makers of excedrin specialize in headache meds ONLY, so they will help. Good luck
