I realize it is a good machine for toning and maintaining, but have not heard too much about it's ability to build muscle. I understand that free weights are better for building, but they take up too much room and are more difficult for my wife to use. I do not want to build a lot of muscle, but would like to add some size. Only owners and people who have used bowflex please. Thanks.

sure you can....building muscle just consists of increasing the amount of blood flow to a specific area or muscle and maintaining it. Lets say you do 3 sets of 12 reps. Well eventually that becomes too easy for you body. at that point you need to increase the amount of weight. So that you have to strain a bit to do all the reps. Then when that weight becomes too easy increase it again......that is how you build muscle...

I have one and I think a gym membership is much better! And you cannot look like the guys on the commercial only from a bowflex. You can get SOME results but not like that, trust me.

You can build muscle on a bowflex, but you are kinda limited as to how much.
