I have a sony camera that has the AV connecting cable but no USB. I would like to connnect this to my computer to edit the movies and send to family etc. is there a way to do this or some convertor device to go from AV to USB or even serial? Thanks in advance!!

yes there are convertors - I use a Dazzle fusion. It has inputs for video and audio and also s-video input. Also doubles as a card reader.It's USB connectable so you don't have to open up your computer to install it.

The Canon Elura 100 and the Zr-700 will allow analog input and through put it to digital signals out to computer with fire wire.

You can get an AV PCI card with RCA in/out puts
