If your car needs oil is better to put mediocre/second-rate oil or no oil at all in it?

Depends whether it is going to cost a lot to repair later on.
If it is a temporary fix that will be corrected in the near future, go for it.
If it not being done right because the person does not know what they are doing, leave it alone and get help.
If it is not being done right because the person is a lazy slob who does not want to take the time to do it properly, don't do it and pay someone to do it right the first time. It will cost a lot more to repair the damages of a half-*** job.

It depends. Most of the time it's better to do something right, but other times a half-assed measure can be better than absolutely nothing.

Depends on if it's going to get you fired or jailed or something if you don't do it. I quit a job once because I was expected by my boss to half a** instead of him getting me enough help to do it right. That's a call you'll have to make. Do you care what other people think of the way you do it? Which would be the most derogatory to your character?

It depends on what it is, and your goals.
For example, if you are running out of time on your school project, and you only have it partially done, just turn in what you have -- you'll at least get some points, and your grade will reflect it.
If you're at work and you're supposed to turn in a report, but you just don't care to do a good job and turn in shoddy work, that reflects on you.

Good question! Being perfect stops people from doing anything at all. On the other hand, I suppose it would matter what it is you were doing because, sometimes, half-a-s-s isn't good enough.

I think not to do it at all.. because we all know when we know when we aren't going to do something we really want to do.....

I say if you can't do something right, then don't do it at all. Doing it halfway is only wasting your time and other peoples time.

Not at all because then you have to UN-do what you've done and start over anyways when the wife doesn't like it.
