See, death is when your body shuts down, brain stops working, heart stops pumping, all that jazz. Then, they give you a funeral, placing you in a coffin, and burying you six feet under the dirt.

Our souls are energy. That energy which is part of us has been around since the beginning of time. I am not sure about reincarnation, but I do believe that we grow from experiences and observations before we are trapped in these earthly bodies and painfully born into the only existence that we know. When the time comes to leave our bodies, we have a re-birthday. At that time we are reborn into something else that is so different from what we know now, that no one can give a straight answer. So man made up the words "heaven" and "hell" along with stories from prophets to pacify our obsession with life after death. Our souls are freed, reborn, and mingle with other energies. Our bodies rot and should be recycled in the earth.

The Bible teaches the following:
Eccl 9:5 "The living are conscious that they will die; but the dead are conscious of nothing at all."

Ps 146:4 "His spirit goes out, he goes back to the ground, in that day his thoughts do perish."

John 11:11-14 (when Lazarus died, Jesus said) "Lazarus our friend has gone to rest, I am journeying there to awaken him from sleep.

Hope for the dead:

John 5:28, 29 "Do not marvel at this, the hour is coming when all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out"

Acts 24:15 "I have hope toward God...that there is going to be a resurrection of both the righteous and the unrighteous"

Rev 20:13 & 14 "The sea gave up those dead in it, and death and Hades gave up those dead in them, and they were judged individually according to their deeds.."

Death is often defined as the stoppage of all brain activity. What happens after you die? Some believe that nothing will happen and you'll just rot in the ground. Others believe that your spirit (or soul) will meet a higher power (often called God) and you'll receive a reward on how you did while you were still living.

If you read the Bible, death is the opposite of life.It occurs when all the life force in all your cells ceases to exist.(the life force is sustained by breathing) When you die, you are not conscience of anything.(you also cannot be resuscitated from death, or you really aren't dead)God will ressurect you during the reign of Christ. Nothing scary happens to you, it is like sleep in that you aren't aware of the passage of time. God will re-unite family members and life will be like it was at the beginning.

There is a really good book about this, called "How We Die: Reflections on Life's Final Chapter" by Sherwin B. Nuland. I would highly recommend it if you're curious about the mechanics of death and what is really happening with your body when you die.

Death is the end of life. Can happen to anyone or thing living. If you believe Jesus, death is like sleeping - you are not conscious of anything at all.

Death is the end of your physical presence here on earth, and
no one knows for certain what happens after that. Different religions have theories about life after that, but there is no universal knowledge (based in fact) of what happens.

Death: the cessation of bodily processes; the departure of the soul from the body.
What happens after? I have no idea, no one ever came back to explain it.

"The living are conscious that they will die; but as for the dead, they are conscious of nothing at all." (Eccl. 9:5)

"The soul that is sinning-it itself will die." (Ezek. 18:4)
