Why is it acceptable to whistle or hum to oneself in public, but not talk to oneself?

No, I hate it when people do this. They are forcing their own mood upon others who may not want to be in the same mood.

I'd never thought of it before.
I guess humming and whistling means you are a happy soul and muttering to yourself means you are unhinged.
It may seem unfair but it is sometimes the case.

talking is a form of communication with others, so its odd when you obviously arent communicating to anyone (at least anyone thats real!). Humming and whistling arent supposed to be forms of communication, they are just an expression of music.

are you kidding me, with all these damn Blue Teeth(Blue Tooth technology) everybody around me looks like their talking to themselves, get yourself one of those and start talking as if you were on the phone.

talking oneself is just thinking out loud so I don't think that's a bad thing.

Because when you talk to yourself is senseless, why talk to yourself when you can do it inside your head.

I scare people by doing that, but what REALLY scares them, is when I argu with myself in public.
