I think a lot of members of the African-American community probably feel offended by the fact that darker-skinned people, especially women, aren't seen as attractive in today's society. Even amongst Latinos, Asians, and Indians those with the lightest skin get the most acceptance. Unfortunately, beauty is still measured by "white standards" to many minorities. The black women many Americans find beautiful these days are all lighter skinned. Tyra Banks, Beyonce, Hally Berry, Vanessa Williams. Chocolate sisters get no love so that's why they call you "color struck".
I think that if you have a preference that's OK. Personally, I really don't have a color preference, but lately I'm finding myself more and more attracted to white men. Does that make me a racist? Absolutely not. Is your attraction to the butter-toffee skinned girls based on relationships or purely physical? Don't limit yourself to just one ethnic group of women. We come in many different and beautiful colors.

When a black guy prefers a light skinned black women it is thought to be because he wants a white women but not have to put up with dealing with racial hatred it is his own ignorance to think he will be accepted in the white community. So when one limits themselves they are not accepting of all black women, and are racist to there own race which aint cool. Love has no color

There's so much discussion about this in the black community. It is a touchy subject. I'm black (Black and Black Latina), but not born in US. Color is not as much of an issue in my native country.

I think it is cool to have preferences (like I like tall men), but from my understanding I think people have issue when you make negative comments about a dark skinned person (like she is dark and ugly for example) or when you only date light skinned people exclusively. You need to ask yourself why you like light skinned women. Do you think dark skinned women aren't as pretty, etc. Do you find any dark skinned women attractive?
My daughter is darker than me and her father (brown skinned, but not Black) and one comment that kills me is how "pretty" her hair is. She has very long hair (her father's texture) and people always say "She has such "good" hair for a dark skinned girl".
We do everything we can to make sure she appreciates/loves her skin color and ancestry. We constantly remind her that she is beautiful inside and out, and not to look down on anyone else because of their outside appearance. Look at their hearts instead.

There are a lot of beautiful dark skin women, but i must admit that weight and upkeep play a big part in attractiveness. But personally it's your choice. I like women of all nationalities, especially the ones that want to share with there girlfriends.

What in the world does skin color have to do with feelings?

If your mentality is so far undeveloped, and your ethics, integrity, virtue and morality are so vain, that you look upon Gods/Nature
creation with a color yardstick for value, then you have no place with a relationship with any one.

To, if you would allow others to impose their values or lack there of upon your decision, then you are far to immature to leave your bedroom, much less be out in the world talking about entering into a relationship with the opposite sex.

It is totally wrong, because it is not a feature that an individual can help. I am a light skinned female, and I don't think that it is fair to prefer someone just because they are a color, I could see their physical beauty, or personality, things that a person can change, but no one accept michael jackson can change their color, I also hate when men date me cuz I am light skinned cause usually they leave me for lighter women, or puerto rican chicks, - it's pretty shallow and pathetic- especially if you yourself is not light skinned

Nothingz wrong with that, each indivisual preferz a different thing! that'z normal. prefering something over another is one thing & "hating" something iz somethin' else. Like, if u say I hate really dark people, ok, that'z not fair , but if ur like , I like lite skinned chicks over otherz, well, thatz just how u like'em!!! & everyone likez certain stuff!!

nothing. People are just jealous. I'm white and my boyfriend's black and I've seen folks (mostly black women) looking all mean when we walk by. There's no reason for that kind of rudeness. You like who you like! They don't have to like who you like and you don't have to like who they like. People just need to stop being so immature and jealous and get over it. Why would they be sellouts just because of the color of their skin? That is racist and light-skinned people don't have to take it.

Would you choose Naomi Cambell over Mariah Carey!

I think it's all very personal and emotional and it doesn't help to politicize it. Then again, I do think we are influenced in our idea of beauty by the media.
