I had the same problem.
Make sure he always have a reasonably clean litterbox. Mine was picky, and if it wasnt clean enough (litter change DAILY) he would pee elsewhere. You might want to have more than one also. (one upstairs, one downstairs, etc.,)
Also make sure you are getting the scent out of places he has peed. You might not smell it, but boy he can. He'll continue to pee where he has marked. Try vinegar and things like that.
Also you could try a different brand of litter. Mine will only use the clay, otherwise they go elsewhere.
Lastly, if nothing else works, have your vet give him the onceover to make sure there is no bladder infection or other urinary problem.
Good luck!

Was he fixed early in life, or later? Sometimes, when a male cat is fixed later in life, they still have the instinct to spray. He is essentially marking his territory, and his territory is your house. If he was fixed early, then there could be some health issues you may have to address such as a urinary tract infection, or some other sort of bladder infection.
There could be other issues as well such as he doesn't like where the litter box is located, the litter isn't the type he likes, or there is something else in the house he is "rebelling" against such as a new addition to the family (human or animal), a recent move, etc. Cats don't take change very well.
You need to be able to find the cause of the spraying before you are able to treat it.
Good luck!

I'm so sorry but I have no idea how to stop it, never heard of anyone successfully stopping spraying when the male has been neutered already. How old was when he got fixed? Was the habit formed by the time it was done? I can say, Urine Gone gets rid of the smell and urine. It doesn't hide it, it actually breaks up and dissolves the urine. It also leaves behind a decent scent but cats don't like it so chances or respraying that area are slim to none. I have used it and love it!!

my parents have a 9 year old male who was fixed over 8 years ago and he does the same thing. he has even rusted their back door and he also pees on the x-mas presents. you pretty much are out of luck. there is no way to stop this behaviour even if you spray him constantly with a water bottle when he backs up to do it.

i have the same problem with my seven year old male.
it is something that has only started in the last year ,and i know how frustrating it is.our cat had even done it in the box of xmas decs on top of the wardrobe,we had to throw them all out.
is your cat happy,or does he feel threatened by anything?our cat started it when my neighbour decided to get 3 kittens in quick sussession.worse now as they are all unneutered ,so have the local cat population hanging out there! it doesnt help i suspose that we have 3 other cats aswell, although to him they are family.
i dont know how you will stop him now he has started ,you will just have to keep on eye on him i guess or rehome him.
have heard that lemon juice helps to get rid of traces of urine, and they hate the smell of menthol maybe you can put that where he sprays.its a differcult one this!
all the best :)

I talked to a vet about that, but they said there's not much you can do. My cat did that right before he was to be fixed, but I just couldn't let that smell keep building. It's too strong. So I had no choice but to get rid of him. I know you don't want to get rid of yours, but it will be hard to stop him from doing it.

I have bred cats for 16 years and as of yet have found no way to stop it. I know there are sprays and things they say will work on your furniture, but they don"t!

I don't know. What I do know is if you have them spayed early (within 1st year) they'll squat like a female.
