He acts "crazy" with everyone else except me. By crazy I mean he barks and jumps at all passing cars and motorcycles and if let out of the yard he chases them almost getting killed regularly. Also when out of the yard he fights (sometimes bloody and serious against bigger or even groups of dogs) with any dog(s) that invades "his turf" (which is about half of the block we live on). He fights against walking outside of the yard on a leash and absolutely refuses (he lies on his back squealing while I pull his chocker leash)to leave his turf. With me he is very friendly and jumps up in the air to greet me waiting for me to put out my hands to support his 2 front legs. When in that position sometimes he puts my hand in his mouth but never bites at it. He's my first dog and he shows me so much affection, is a great watchdog, obeys most of my commands and will always let me hold him or restrain him if I choose to. Any of you specialists have any thoughts? Thank you.

There absolutely is hope! As the dig is already binding with you, he will want to please you..I have found that dogs are never too old to learn, and your dog sounds just right. Here is a good article on training a dog that has been rescued, which is pretty much your situation> http://www.tackroomgossip.org.uk/articles/trainingarescueddog.htm
If you check out these links> http://search.yahoo.com/search?search=rescued+dog+training&ei=UTF-8&fr=ks-ques&ico-yahoo-search-value=http%3A%2F%2Frds.yahoo.com%2F_ylt%3DAjennYrDglrqAE9zbKBn8UAezKIX%2FSIG%3D111gjvvgj%2F*-http%3A%2F%2Fsearch.yahoo.com%2Fsearch&ico-wikipedia-search-value=http%3A%2F%2Frds.yahoo.com%2F_ylt%3DAvs_mOOoqowBeFaInS8zAaMezKIX%2FSIG%3D11ia1qo58%2F**http%253a%2F%2Fen.wikipedia.org%2Fwiki%2FSpecial%253aSearch&p=rescued+dog+training
there will be a lot more help..
If you put his leash on, any time you are near him, and just allow him to drag it around, he will soon connect wearing the leash with having you near...In a very casual way, give the leash an occasional tug while you are visiting with the dog..It won't be long before you will have him walking on it...Always remove it when you are out of sight.
this is an excellent site to help you deal with his aggressions> http://www.leerburg.com/

Wow, what a story. Er, well first - if you're planning on adopting this dog as your own (not clear from what you wrote if this is your intent) you want to keep him safe from passing cars. Also, keep in mind that trying to drag him around by a choke collar is not advisable if you want to have any relationship with this dog. Imagine if someone was trying to drag you into a pit of snakes - you wouldn't want to go, either. So if there's no pressing need to take this dog for a walk, don't create a situation like this again. Especially with the obvious aggression issues - don't risk a bad bite. Here are some links to help you :

He just wants lots of attention. If he was malnurished then he was probably neglected as far as affection too. He is happy someone cares for him and is just trying to please you and protect you. He is trying to make up for lost time. You just need to keep reassuring him that you love him and are there for him. When he puts your hand in his mouth he is saying pet me. He just needs lots of love and attention and he will calm down. He is just waiting for you to leave like his previous owner did. He'll get it figured out that you aren't going anywhere.

Absolutely! I show my dogs and also breed them. I've been doing this for a long time. Even the ones I think will never learn , do learn with patience, love, and KNOW-HOW!!

Most dogs can be trained, but, without having ever seen him, or you I cannot tell you with certainty. It sounds as if he has serious issues with other dogs. The thing with putting your hand is his mouth is translated by most people as affection, I translated as domination/pack instinct confusion. Please be careful
