I know that I am going to be slated for this but I'm not asking your opinion on whether I should stay with my current partner.

The other day I had this conversation with a female friend of mine and out of the blue we both agreed that we fell in love with each other 6 years ago but did nothing about it as we were both in relationships.

The question is:

How many people out there love someone else even though their in a relationship with someone else.

I have decided to be honest with both myself and my partner and leave. (Not to be with her either)

Yes but it's a different sitiuation than what you're in. I think you have made a good decision. You have to be true to your heart.

Life is a building of interconnecting rooms (think back to the scene in the book Neverending Story). Each choice we have to make is a door into another room; and no matter how big or small, that choice will lead us in a different direction. Since different choices lead us along different paths, it makes perfect sense to think that there is more than one potentially perfect match out there. Each potential match is only the correct one if both of you wind up making the descisions that lead you one another.

Those that are on close paths, but not the right ones, will wind up being people who have a major impact on our lives. You need to have someone around who is soul-kin (someone who is kindred, not in blood but through bonds of the soul) if only because they are, somehow, part of you and love you. That bond will always be there, it just won't be a romantic love bond.

There are also soul kin (like your friend) who, for one reason or another (not because of the potential match thing), we feel a very close bond to, but a bond that is strange [basically wanting to be with that person forever, no matter how that is accomplished] (soul bonds) and the closest thing we can relate it to is love. You can be straight and have feelings like love for a person of the same gender that you know, and that person is probably your soul kin. The trick comes in differentiating romantic love and the love-like feeling one has for soul kin.

Maybe your friend is just someone who is really important to you, and you to her, and for some reason you need to stay beside each other and support each other. Whether or not you each are in relationships with other people, you will still love each other and there is nothing wrong with that. In fact, its wonderful and you are both lucky to have that kind of relationship in your lives.

This is such a good question, well done!!
I'm in love with someone who is also in love with me but we cant be together because he is 16 years older than me. I'm 21 and he 37, we totally adore each other but because of the age gap our lives just wont go together. It kills me especially when I'm with someone else because he is all i want but i know i cant have him.
If you can, then be with the person you really love because the emptiness will stay with you forever if you don't.

There's always been this one guy in my life when others have failed me. I'm a soppy ol' romantic myself and fall head over heels so easily. But with this one guy its always been different. I know he feels the same but it will never be... he's my one constant in this crazy universe and maybe if we'd admitted how we felt all those years ago things would be different now but there's to much water under the bridge.... such is life!!

(By the way honesty is always the best policy, well done you.)

I met a guy and fell in love with him almost immediately. I love him, and will always love him. At the time I was in a relationship. I knew I didn't, and never could, love my partner the way I love this man...so I left him. It wasn't fair to him, or me, to stay. Best of luck with the future.

My heart goes out to you.
0ften with the very best of intentions we put ourselves in a situation that is going to cause hurt, both top ourselves and others.
It is impossible to go back and correct that erropr but you can start to rebuild from where you are (though THAT may seem impossible at the moment)
I wish you well in your future...however you finally decide.

Yes,someone I knew years ago. That love isn't the same as the love I share with my husband but I will feel it for the rest of my life.

Probably my late husband.........even though i resented him terribly in the last 10 years of 27 year marriage. I fell out of love with him but will always love him.
Sorry if that makes no sense to you but it does to me.
Merry Christmas x
