Hey you want to hear a sweet story? Just the other day I was feeling really lonely and I looked my cat right in the eyes and said "I'm so lonely" and there were tears in my eyes. She looked at me like she was an ancient woman spirit and jumped in my lap and started purrling hella loudly. Then she looked right thru me like she she could see the inside of my soul.

She knew exactly what I said, it's like she understood the simplicity of my emotion perfectly. Why can't more humans be that way? =(

Because cats don't have their minds all cluttered up with the same "intellectual" thought processes we have. So they are clear to receive messages from the spirit or soul or more primitive layers of the brain (whatever your belief system can support). We share the same parts of the limbic brain, the seat of emotions, with the cat.

Your cat can "read" you more clearly than humans can because of this lack of clutter in her perceptions of you.

She may not be psychic. She may be like any other living being with whom you have an intimate realtionship, she responds to the cues that you project. Of course language is not necessary, but from the tone of your voice, the inflection, mood, your body movements and facial expressions, how you behave towards her, and perhaps even your phermones or your body chemesrty. It doesn't take a mind reader as much as it does someone to pay attention to someone they love.

There is no mysticism to it. Cats are excellent body language readers, and that makes them very empathetic. Cats also really care about their family members, so she knew you needed some attention.

Cats by nature read body language and signals. It's how their bigger cousins hunt.

Strange that you should say that, perhaps they do understand?
I looked up from watching the TV the other day to find my 10 week old female kitten staring at me intently. I looked back at her and said "What you looking at bi*ch?"
She flew at me and left a couple of fair sized scratches down the side of my nose, then hid behind the sofa.
