I would recommend drinking higher alcoholic content drinks first...ie liquor before beer or wine. Wine before beer. If you get a nice buzz on its good to keep a steady even pace. Upping the alcohol content of your drinks increases your chances of over drinking and feeling crappy the next day (or getting sick in the process). Good luck either way and be smart and safe. Please do not drink and drive!

I was just reading yesterday about a study done in Britain that said that different types of alcohol do not affect people differently. As far as your body (and brain) is concerned, alcohol is alcohol, whether it's beer, wine, whisky, or something else.
So, no.

The actual quotation is 'never mix the hop and the grape.'
(Because you'll get a bad hangover). PS Be careful if you drink perry. It's like a cider made from pears. It goes down a treat and you think it's nothing much. You will be SO PISSED and have the Emperor of all hangovers.

The way I have heard it is-
'Beer before wine, fine, wine before beer, oh dear'
Or for the alcoholics amongst you-
'Wine then beer, no fear'

My father-in-law was from Devon and he always used to say "cider on beer, be of good cheer. Beer on cider makes very poor rider. I guess the best way to avoid feeling sick is not to mix your drinks too much.

I've never heard the "queer" part. I thought it was ~ wine before beer, never fear.

I only know this saying in German; it translates to be the exact opposite.I think it all depends on the quantity and with the wine, at least, the quality.
"Bier nach Wein lasst Dass sein; Wein nach Bier ratest Dir!"

Don't mix your drinks. Always try to drink a glass of water to every glass of wine.

You mis-phrased it!
Beer then wine is very fine.
Beer then whisky is very risky.
I used to drink quite a lot
I would always empty my glass
My nose would go all shiny and wobbly and red
And then I'd fall down on my ****!
