I have been going out with this guy for about 6 months now, and I want us to get closer emotionally. I know that guys don't generally like to admit to their sensitive side, but I know he has one and I want to get to know that part of him. He is so sweet, but he is so guarded. I know he likes me, but it's a long-distance relationship so I don't know him as well as I would a guy in my school.

All depends on his age and maturity.
young guys don't usually open up, because they are insecure and not confident enough - THAT"S RIGHT, they might act and talk like big shots, but deep inside they are afraid to be "weak"
BUT, don't you dare tell them that. :))))
Mature men, know who they are, and aren't affraid to open up, becaus it's a waist of time- meaning, everyone is human, and everyone has fears (from fighting to possibly loosing their mother)

On the other hand, to open up, it's alwasy better to do it in-person. Because WE ALL want to see the reaction (body language) of the loved one, when they hear are secrets.

Or he could have a "not pleasant " past , which he might not open up about for a LONG time, untill he trusts you completely (it takes more than 6 montsh, sorry :(

Either way, DON'T push it!!!! unless it bothers you to the point, that you can't handle it- then you have to say something.

Everyone is very sensetive about their "true themselves".
BE CAREFUL.

p.s. unless you make plans in the next 3 months to move closer (evern if it's after school), long distance relationship are NOT worht it, trust me.

Let your relationship run its course.Dont ever push things to happen your way involving a guy.If he's really into you,he will show you his emotional side coz when a man wants a woman he will do anything to get closer to her.And if he isnt putting any efforts to get emotionally closer to you,it means that he isnt ready for intimacy or he needs space for a while.Or it can also mean that ''He's just not that into you''.If he's guarded, let him be.If he loves you he will get off the guard to come closer to you.
