I've got CD, diagnosed 16 years ago following the birth of my second child. I probably had the disease since I was younger, but didn't know it until then since it wasn't very bad. I'd get sick once in a while, but then I'd get over it and be OK.
When I was pregnant the first time, my intestines caused no problems at all. With my second, it was horrible. I was vomiting all the time and I hurt. According to the doctor, that was because genetically, my daughter is more like me than my son was. (Babies aren't exactly 50/50 on how much of their genes they get from their parents.) Since Crohn's is an auto-immune disease, my body sensed my extra gene tissue from the baby, and tried to fight it, causing me to flare big-time. When my daughter was born, BTW, she was almost 9 pounds and completely healthy.
If I had to do it again, knowing that I have crohn's, I'd still have my kids. Sure, CD can be horrid, but it is something that can be managed. There is no guarantee that the kids will get this disease. It does tend to run in families, but it isn't directly inherited. So far, they are 20 and 16, and they show no sign of anything. And trust me, I'm very vigilant!
I have decided not to have any more kids, but that was a decision that we made before we had kids. We wanted 2, so I would only have the 2 even if I hadn't been diagnosed.
Some of the medicines that can help CD are believed to possibly cause birth defects, however, so talk to your OB/GYN and gastro before you start trying to get pregnant.
Good luck in whatever you decide.
