McCormick markets black food coloring now - the last few years. Not all grocery stores carry it, but call around to the stores in your area to find one that does. For the gold, try craft stores that carry a powdered food coloring - that's what I've seen on Ace of Cakes. PS. Sounds like you're a Pittsburgh Steelers fan looking forward to Sunday night's game. Good luck from a Cleveland Browns fan!

Gold toned- go to a bakery specialty store for the coloring. If a very Yellow works for you use plain old yellow food coloring. 1lb box of Dominos 10x sugar 1/2 stick of softened butter very carefully put spoonsful of very warm water and mix by hand until creamed. Be careful of the water you add. That's an old fashioned Butter Cream Icing. You caN FLAVORING IF YOU'D LIKE TOO!

Tint this one gold; use paste food color.
SNOW WHITE BUTTERCREAM ICING
This buttercream icing has an ideal consistency for frosting cakes. It has a firm quality making it good for wedding cake decorations and flat surface or flower nail flowers. Air dry decorations for 24 hours.
2/3 cup water
4 tablespoons meringue powder
12 cups sifted confectioners' sugar
1-1/4 cups shortening
3/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon almond flavoring
1/2 teaspoon clear vanilla flavoring
1/4 teaspoon butter flavoring
Combine water and meringue powder; whip at high speed until peaks form. Add 4 cups of sugar, one cup at a time, beating after each addition at low speed. Alternately add shortening and remainder of sugar. Add salt and flavorings; beat at low speed until smooth.
YIELD: 7 cups icing. Recipe may be doubled or cut in half; however, if cut in half, yield is only 2-1/2 cups.

Well, you can cover the cake with white frosting and then dust it with gold flake. That's the most dazzling way to accomplish such a feat.

I agree with the meringue idea. A quick bake in the oven once the frosting is on will turn it golden.

Gold-coloured? I imagine you add a little red to yellow. Not too much or you'll have orange.
