I think there are addictive personalities and non-addictive personalities.
Addictive types are easier to get hooked on something than non-addictive types.

I really differ with many of the other writers. Addictions destroy and addictions can kill. They are not something to make light of. The other day I saw a boy, he must have been 10 or 12 smoking and acting so cool about it. I almost got tears in my eyes. Does he know how much harm he is doing to his body.

Anyway, as to your question. First, what does it mean to be addicted? An addiction is any behavior that is done for one fundamental reason: to avoid certain painful emotions. That is why I would say that, at least in the USA, 95% of people are addicted to something.
If I wake up and go for a jog it looks like a good thing to do. What could be so wrong with jogging? But what if I must do this every day no matter what? What if my son needs me to spend some extra time with him but I have to go out for a run? Or what if I continue even after I injured my foot? Clearly, I am addicted to this activity. I can not stop. I feel I must do it. And I will jog even when there are other more important things to attend to.

Addiction is about choice. If you can not stop exercising, drinking, browsing the internet then you are addicted. If you can stop when you want and then decide to continue when you want then you are simply making free decisions.

I spend at least $60 a month on coffee. I am also quite poor. I am spending money that could go to much more beneficial things. I am spending food and transportation money. Addictions are a big deal.
Good question.

No. Children are proof of that. However, I think the majority of people have addictive qualities. Even though they may not be addicted to anynthing right now, it is just a matter of time before they get addicted to something. But I know that not all humans are addicted to something.

This is a great question especially considering the times we are living in w/ an endless supply of new addictions, treatments, support groups ad nauseum. I think we all have an underlying passion that we are addicted to and this passion is what drives us to wake up every day. Once you lose that passion (addiction) you truly start to die. I think addiction does not have to have the negative association of drugs, alcohol, sex but it can be whatever drives you, whatever you consider your ultimate desire. If you ask a Buddhist I'm sure they will tell you all sentient beings are addicted to something.

Pretty much. If you like dioing something you enjoy over and over again (playing your favorite video game, listening to your favorite music, etc.) then consider yourself addicted.

And a lot of people are addicted to drugs like over the counter meds or nose spray but don't realise it because they don't consider those things addictive.

i think addiction is more about personality and genetics. if it runs in your family you will find it very easy to develop bad habits and become addicted.for some people it is very easy to avoid bad habits/addictions. for example: if someone who's addicted to alcohol stops drinking they will probably start smoking. they drop one bad habit for another. some people just have addictive personalities. that means they will need to be aware of there tendencies more so then other people.so...in short!...NO...addiction is something that people have to develop. if you don't allow it to happen it wont!!

We are all psychologically addicted to something, whether it be our favourite food or our favorite color. Things you just "love" and "can't get enough of" are things you are psychologically addicted to, and everyone has one. Those that your body physically yearns for and gives you withdrawal for are things you are physically addicted to.

Almost all people are addicted to the fictional story of self.

Talk to them and in a few minutes... "oh, five years ago... this and that, yada yada..."

They never stop, they basically live in virtual reality in their thoughts.

They don't know who they are.
