It could go back further in his family history. My mom has a black cat that's mom and dad are both normal sized house cats. But he is about 6 months old and about 20 pounds. But his size comes from his greatgrand father. His greatgrand father was my cat tigger whom was a bangel tabby and weighed over 30 pounds. So maybe his grandparents or greatgrandparents were a larger breed cat.

Six of my seven cats are "normal" to small in size, but my black and white cat is 3 years old and weighs about 19 pounds, he's not fat, just huge. His feet are about the size of silver dollars. He's not a mutant, he's just a big cat.

No he is not a mutant. Do you know who the parents of your cat are? It is possible the father was part wild cat or something like that which those cats are bigger. And also some cats are small in nature. So if your mom's cat was a smaller type cat and yours is a normal size cat then he would be bigger then your mom's cat.

Definately not a mutant. If you seen my baby cat (beautiful white cat with light orange/tan accents on a few spots) you'd see, he's enormous. He turned 1 in July and weighs in at almost 22 lbs. He's not fat but stands very tall. Standing up with paws stretched upward he comes to midline on my belly (around bottom of my ribcage) and I'm 5'5". I call him my monster baby. lol

Maybe he is a special breed. I had a maine coon once. She had long hair and she was rather large. I think 20lbs. Do you go to the vet? He might be able to tell you whether your cat has a pedigree or not.

This question is one for a genetics expert. my knowlege tells me the genes vary within individuals even within families, their are various genes that may be expressed in different individuals this could expalin the size of your cat. Also size could be determined by more than one gene. these all make it dificult to determine whther your cat is a mutation of the parrents genes or just the variations of the parents genes.

some grow faster than others. Mine was very big when he was 4 months old, now he's stopped growing at 8 months and is small for his age. Your kittens "grandmother" could have been huge...

with the long hair I might guess he has Maine Coon in him. they can reach about 25 pounds (they're not fat).
