Only if things like crosses are banned too. Either you ban all religious symbols worn on the body, or you ban none. The veil can be lifted for identification purposes, it doesn't have to be banned.

No, they shouldn't be banned, because trying to bring something like that into law would cause an immense amount of tension, which would be stupid in the current climate.
What should happen is banning in situations where it is going to cause practical problems i.e with communication; and also negotiation to get some sort of workable compromise. The fact is that the Qu'ran doesn't say the veil should be worn, but that women should dress in a way that doesn't draw attention to themselves. Following on from that is the obvious fact that while in Moslem countries it is perfectly normal to wear a full head covering, in Western countries it isn't; therefore, they are not dressing in a way designed not to draw attention to themselves. As they are dressing in a way which will, inevitably, get them noticed, it could be argued that, in certain situations, wearing the veil is actually against what the Qu'ran says.

No they shouldn't!
Why should you people ban something that i according to their religion? Why do you want to stop hem from ppraticing something in their religion?
Don't you have any respect for their beliefs? People these days are so racist about them wearing veils that they won't go nearer to them, "oh because they might have a bomb".
Well tell me, name me a 'muslim terrorist' that was a female and who dealed with explosives?
Answer is none! So why would Muslim women do it now? A proper Muslim who wears the full face veil, will never do such a thing, nor carry any legal offensive weapons. You people are just taking things too far. [To the questioner] I'm not saying your one of them. But majority of the people out there. They don't even know why Muslim women do it!
Hear read about it
http://islamqa.com/index.php?ref=11774&ln=eng&txt=veiling
So please people, give some repect and understanding to the Muslims. You people make me sick!

Why should it be banned? First of all it is apparently a "free" country (I'm talking about London or America or whatever), so why should people not have the freedom to dress as they wish? Secondly, I find people who dress half naked and have their breasts out very offensive, but I don't see that getting banned... So why the veil?
Edit: Let me just add something. It is understandable for muslims who wear niqaba (veils) to take it off for security reasons sometimes, for example in passports or driving liscences, and they do...but why at other times?
And for people who think muslim people are ugly and that is why they where them, MAN are you stupid! First of all, the point is to COVER their BEAUTY, and secondly you can't generalise all muslims to look alike :S because obviously there are converts...does that mean all women are ugly? Wow people can be so dumb sometimes.

yet France is an earthly society. they do no longer have self belief you ought to be able to placed on inspite of you want. it is the French way. The French regulation on secularity and conspicuous non secular symbols in faculties bans donning conspicuous non secular symbols in French public (i.e. authorities-operated) customary and secondary faculties. This incorporates ALL religions. Now they are banning coverings of the entire face except for eyes. i imagine it is fairly tolerant. this is not the regulation of Islam that a woman conceal all of her face except for the eyes. It an intense interpretation, and impacts actually some thousand Muslims in France. in the journey that they choose France, an earthly usa, for his or her living house, it really is absurd that they imagine that the vast majority (even maximum persons of Muslims in France help the ban) ought to make an exception for them. Assimilate or choose yet another non-SECULAR usa. when I lived in an Islamic usa for 2 years, I coated outdoors the living house for 2 years. No exceptions were made for me. i became envisioned to ASSIMILATE. to be able to do a similar.

Yes because I want to be able to hear what they are saying.
Have you ever been on the phone and not be able to hear until you put your glasses on?? (or is it just my dad that does that!!?)
Over 80% of communication comes from body language and facial expression so they are going to make themselves really isolated.
I'm sometimes not sure how much of it is to do with religion and how much is to do with intimidation and power.

Yes. In England, our national religion is the Church of England, head of which is the Queen. The CoE has influenced our laws, our culture, our heritage, our history, our shopping days...
Although we can't stop other religions forming here, they should not be allowed to start altering the face of our nation.
Although I respect other religions, they should respect our country and its national identity.
If our Government says "You shall not wear full face veils", then people should not. France did it.

The bigger deal we make of it the worse things are.
They should not be banned. Personally I like the veil.
The American society will probably make the decision of Muslims wearing full veils. If they want to live comfortably in the American society, Muslims will probably decide not to wear the full veil.

In the US it should not be banned unless another law is broken. Example. We must not wear a mask for our drivers license picture..So the Vail must come off to be law compliant. If someone does not agree with the law they can choose not to drive or move to country that has laws they agree with.We cannot pick and choose the laws we want keep. You cant have it both ways..if a persons wants to live in the west we welcome you, the freedoms are greater here than any Muslim country for women. But our laws must be followed. Is that to much to ask>>?

I find the full veil a barrier to communication. But then again, if we banned everything I'm not happy with, there would be a lot of disgruntled people.

Why, whats wrong with full face veils? Its their culture. I'm not bothered by them, nor do I particularly love the style.
Its just like string-like swimsuits, which are quite offensive in some cultures, while for Americans it just normal. If some people are bothered by these, should they be banned, I think not.
