depends on how religious you are. It was written by men, and men are known to conceal some facts and exagerate others. It is known that at least once, Someone in power has had the bible altered to meet his own needs, so who knows how many more times this has happened. It is meant as a guide for its followers, and, even then what it contains is used in whatever context the person quoting it, has the need to illustrate. It is a book, written by humans, so take that as you will. As far as being historically accuate, who can say for sure. During these times, stories were passed on mouth to mouth, and any one who has played that game where one person says something, and at the end of the line, it has completely changed, knows how those things work out. Good people, Christian or not, Religious or not, dont need a Guide to tell them how to act.

Try reading Josh McDowell's book, "Evidence that Demands a Verdict." The Bible is written in various literary genres: historical narrative, poems, parables, prophecy and more. It depends on the passage you are reading and the context of what is being discussed. It is interesting to note that there has never been an archeological discovery that has discredited the historicity of the Bible. It also amazes me how many people respond on this thing that have no clue as to what they are talking about.

Some of the bible historical references are clearly accurate, since they can be confirmed by other sources. Some are clearly inaccurate, as there is overwhelming evidence from other sources that show their inaccuracy. And some will are impossible to tell, since the bible is sometimes the only reference to an event (this is mainly hebrew historical events, and events having to do with the life of jesus).
*Any* single historical reference is questionable, since the writer always adds his or her own bias even when they *try* to be objective. When they don't care about being objective, and are specifically trying to show history from their own oint of view, it's even worse. That's why all good historians never accept a single source for events -- it's always considered "not verified" and "questionable" if there's only one source. Since for many events it describes, the bible is the sole source, the accuracy of the record of those events will always be considered questionable.

Well you could be right on both answers. If there was no Bible or Quarran or others that made huge impacts to spirituality. The world would live in fear. The Warlords would take over no social structure, nothing much to believe in.But don't lose Faith in the Bible cause it's your soul that matters. Were here for a good time not a long time.Yes we meant to be on a better path but we stumled and fell hard. But there is a GOD and Jesus

The Bible is in part a historical record, albeit somewhat revisionist history; a number of the places where events took place have been found. Some of the Bible is the reworking of older myth tales and creation of new mythic tales that support Biblical concepts. Mythic tales were extremely popular in those days. A number of books have been written examining the basis of Biblical stories in mythologies that predate the Bible. As of the Bible as literal fact; it boils down to are you the kind of person who can believe in talking animals, virgin births, and people rising from the dead? Reason and science would tend one to not. There are also authors who claim divine revelation for their interpretations of the word of God. How would one determine the validity of that? Some cite Biblical prophecy as support for the Bible being fact but if you read them they are wildly vague and some have been attributed to mulitiple events. Scholars have found references in the book of Daniel prophecies that seem to disprove that it could have possibly been written before the events it prophecies. This is where my reading and study have taken me. You should investigate yourself.

Alot of people try to say the bible is fiction, but to be honest if you study history and and what's in the bible.. you'll find out that it is true... how can someone sit here and say that it is all fiction when they have no proof that it is fiction.. there is more proof that it is true than fiction.... back in those days men spoke in parables, which means almost like poems or the way they seen the world, people in our generation don't understand that, just like Jesus , he spoke in parables.. like the fig tree for example, alot of people don't understand what he means, but I won't go through all that, to answer your question it is true..

Well, I don't know if the historical timelines can be considered accurate from our perspective. A day is like a thousand years to God, so who knows? Who knows how much of the Bible is true vs parables? I think the truth contained in the Bible is the principles God gave us on how to live. They are for sure true.

The bible was compiled about 365 AD by king constantine and the council of churches. I believe he used it for political purposes by having it edited, altered, misinterpeted, books omitted, etc. Also it appears the church powers tried to remove all information in or about the bible that tell us that it has its roots in the vedas, vedanta, siddha yoga and hinduism. See www'stephen-knapp.com/articles_to_read . If you wish to understand what Jesus really taught study Vedanta philophy and siddha yoga. See syda.org/theguru

The Bible surpasses all the requirements to be considered a historical document. It was passed down from generation to generation because of its history, and to teach people about God. Laws are needed to protect and they have a convicting quality. But if you keep reading, you will see that grace and mercy are the real theme :)
