In the Book of Revelations, which I have read several times, can you name me one female character who is not drawn in the negative? There is one very minor character who has a child that Satan is desperate to get. She is saved but other than that very minor character, one that wasn't even given a name, who else?

The Harlot Babylon is yet another proof that the bible not only casts women in a secondary, ghettoized role but often demonizes them. Any wonder that I didn't walk but rather ran away from Christianity specifically and monotheism generally? The monotheistic texts are sanctified horror for the female gender.

Rev. 17:18 clarifies this further: "And the woman whom you saw is that great city which reigns over the kings of the earth."

Therefore, the "harlot" is a city that commits "harlotry" or "spiritual adultry," which is actually idolatry (see Jeremiah 3 for an example of how God links idolatry to spiritual adultry and harlotry).

Verse 9b clarifies that this "spiritual harlot" is located on "seven mountains on which the woman sits." This means the city is built on seven hills. Although there are several cities in the world built on seven hills, none of them but ONE has the power to commit spiritual adultry with the world: the Vatican. This is not to say that the harlot is the Catholic Church, however. We have no way of knowing who will control the Vatican once the Antichrist establishes the One World Religion. The prophecy of St. Malachy, which has been amazingly accurate, predicts the current pope will be the last traditional pope. The next one will lead his flock through the Tribulation. This part of the prophecy reads:

"In extreme persecution, the seat of the Holy Roman Church will be occupied by Peter the Roman, who will feed the sheep through many tribulations; when they are over, the city of seven hills will be destroyed, and the terrible or fearsome Judge will judge his people. The End."

This sounds hauntingly like Revelation 18!

I hope this helps. Peace and Merry Christmas!

Excellent question. Let's examine the evidence.

Verse 1 describes her as sitting on "many waters." Verse 15 goes on to tell us that "The waters that you saw, where the harlot is sitting, mean peoples and crowds and nations and tongues." Since no literal woman could do this, she must be symbolic. What, then, does she represent?

At verse 18, she is described as "the great city that has a kingdom over the kings of the earth." The term "city" indicates an organized group of people. And since it presides over the "kings of the earth" it must be an influential organization that is international, a world empire. What kind of empire?

We begin with three possibilities. Political, commercial or religious. In verse 2 we learn that "the kings of the earth committed fornication" with her. Therefore, she cannot be a political empire, as she has commited fornication by forming political alliances with the rulers of the earth. This explains why she is called a "harlot."

In chapter 18 verse 3 we learn that the merchants "became rich due to the power of her shameless luxury." And in verse 15 when she is overthrown, these stand at a distance and mourn her. She cannot represent a commercial empire.

At 18:23 we learn she misleads the nations by means of her "spiritistic practice." She was also opposed to true religion. In verse 24 "the blood of prophets and of holy ones" was found in her. In 17:6 she was "drunk with the blood of the holy ones and with the blood of the witnesses of Jesus."

Who would fit this description? False religion. The name "Babylon the Great" is appropriate as many false religious teachings have their roots in ancient Babylon. Rev 17:16 warns us that "the ten horns that you saw, and the wild beast, these will hate the harlot and will make her devastated and naked, and will eat up her fleshy parts and will completely burn her with fire."

Yes, she is destined for destruction. How important, then, to heed the warning at 18:4: "Get out of her my people, if you do not want to share with her in her sins, and if you do not want to receive part of her plagues."

Ancient Babylon was the center of false religion, so Babylon the Great is the World Empire of False Religion today and through out history. If you look at Rev. 17: 1-4 you see the Harlot is sitting on the back of a fearsome beast with seven heads and ten horns, the kings of the earth of committed fornication with her, she is full of disgusting things. The Harlot also represents worldwide religious entity, not any one religion, but all religions that produce rotten things. The beast represents the world political powers. False religion (Harlot) straddles the back of this political beast, attemping to influence its decisions and to control its direction. If you look at vs. 16 we see that the "beast will hate the harlot and make her naked and eat up her fleshly parts" ,
So the world's political powers will turn on false religion and destroy her. vs. 17 "God put it into their hearts to carry out his thoughts" . So this is his will that she be destroyed. That's why at Rev. 18:4 it says "Get out of her my people, if you do not want to share with her in her sins"

With all the things going on in religions today, meddling in war and politics, spreading false doctrines and tolerating immoral sex,
priests molesting children, gay priests, the list goes on...

How can we know if our religion is approved by God. Matt 7:17, by their good fruits.

Practice Love: Not divided by race or culture. Love among themselves, Rather than kill one another, they would die for one another. John13:35, John 17:16, Acts 10:34 &34, 1 John 3:16

There was a very young innocent girl in the book of God who lived to be an obedient subject. That is all she has to humbly portray to fulfill the prophesy. However, a great deceiver was even more cunning in creating her character more than what she was just supposed to be. She is now called..Queen of Heaven (therefore acting as wife of God), Mother of God, married to a human being and for many times called to be giving more favor than God Himself. Thereby making God an Angry God that can only forgive upon influence by the wife or the mother of the Son who is also the Father. Doesn't that sound so abominable?.....www.thename.ph

Author hates Babylon, although he maybe referring to Rome. It is no different from modern "America is the great Satan" thing. That's all.
