well i'm a marketing major and i think that its important to make the distinction between sales and marketing. i didnt major in marketing to be a salesperson. my career goal is sales support/brand management...etc.
i'm not getting a 4 year degree to go knocking on people's doors.
as for getting a pharmaceutical job, its really easy!! they are short lived because they can be stressful going to doctors offices and hospitals everyday trying to get them to prescribe your meds to patients. and you have to go through intense training (usually over the summer) because you have to understand biology and chemistry basics as they relate to the medicine.
good luck with whatever you choose :-)

A business administration degree is much better. You are cheating yourself by majoring in marketing without understanding the other sides of business. Although you may never work in Accounting, Finance, Operations Management or Sales, it is imperative that you understand those fields so you can be an effective marketing exec within a large organization.
As for pay, stay away from Advertising. Because so many people want to be in advertising, firms use it as an excuse to pay people poorly. I recommend staring in sales and moving into marketing afterward. There is a high demand for Marketing execs who understand business from a sales perspective.

Marketing covers the 5 major P's i.e.
Product
Promotion
Placement (Channel)
Process
People.
Its a good degree as you will get to explore all the business sections in a corporation.
The job are tough and challenging but give u great perks and eventually you will acquire a host of skills from managing ppl, to project management, presentation, negotiations, launching, develop promotion, events and activities.
You will need to work with almost everyone in the company (depending on your portfolio) and its an existing way to master your capabilities of team work.
Those company you mention are tough to get in as the nature of the business one have to start from the bottom to fully understand the business.
In Marketing if you can master the main 4 Ps (in terms of skills) the product is just one small issue.
Good luck.

Not really, most pharmacutical companies want someone wth a business degree. Most real marketing jobs are short lived and people without degrees make just as much as you. I have a minor in marketing and it hasn't helped me one bit.

Marketing will allow you to write your own paycheck if you get good at it. Focus on sales, emotional direct response marketing and copywriting. I encourage you to read www.dankennedy.com resources and buy his stuff. Also, another mentor of mine is www.malemery.com again, his stuff is brilliant. Good luck!
