For some reason, I don't remember it being this rigid. I was scratching my leg and happened to notice that my shin bone was really bumpy. Could this be a symptom of calcium deficiency or some other underlying condition?

Mine's bumpy, too! And I drink A LOT of milk (a minimum of 12 oz. every day, and often more like 24-32 oz.) plus eat yogurt, cheese, ice cream, dark green veggies, etc. pretty regularly. So I doubt the bumps come from any type of calcium deficiency. I kind of think all those times you hit your shin against the edge of the table, the curb, your bike pedals as a kid, etc., etc., just catch up with you over the years. Maybe you could see if younger people with fewer bruised shins had smoother shin bones, while the elderly, with years of bumps and bruises, would have bumpier ones, to test the theory out.....

what you most likely have is a condition called splinter shin... it is when you knock a little piece of bone off of your shin bone,(the chip of bone is still under the skin) and it starts to grow, i would get it checked out..
