Part of good communication depends on the tone and inflection in a persons voice as well as non verbal cues such as eye contact, swaying back and forth, or how close a person stands to the other person. With email you only get the words and not the other, more telling forms of communication. So yes people can be misunderstood in an email.

Another part of good communication is to express your feelings openly. If you feel offended you have to let the other person. She probably did not mean what she had written the same way you took it.

Depends how you write them i guess!! if i said 'WHAT DO YOU MEAN'? lol, you may think i am shouting..but if i said 'what do you mean'? same thing yeah, but just doesn't sound so harsh. It's using what's available to you in the best way possible to ensure you are understood correctly and therefore not misunderstood.

..It's not good to have your feelings hurt, but maybe you need to call instead of mail and ensure there has been no misunderstanding to both parties, it well then put your mind at rest a little as you will then at least know !
