It rarely matters what I name a dog...they usually end up getting called something else.
I had a large mutt named Hans but his name got changed to Goober (We used to say he was such a Goober and it stuck)
I had an Aussie (lost him 2 months ago to cancer) named Caleb...after his first bath my son-in-law (who bought him for me) said he was so poofy, his name became Poofy.
My chihuahua's name is Jester...my husband said that if we gave him an acronym it would be LUBERD..Little Ugly Bug-Eyed Rat Dog...so now he gets call Luberd or Rat.
I did put my foot down when I got my show dog (another Aussie) his call name is Shiloh and I told everyone it was going to STAY Shiloh.
I bought my husband an Aussie puppy in late Oct for his birthday. She came in and took over. She is a black tri that is almost all black. He named her Dark and Stormy Night and her call name is Storm.

Name choice is such a personal thing. I suggest looking to your background, your dog's origin, your favorite hobbies, things like that to figure out a name for your dog. I have a lot of suggestions on a website:
http://www.favorite-puppy-names.com
that may give you some ideas to get started.

Olivia or Katie....my dog came named already and I don't have heart to change it because she responds to it. If I had a choice I would have changed it, but now I'm happy and couldn't picture her with any other name.

My husband and I always went with something that we were interested in and found names in that. We had 2 german sheperds there names were Rusty (girl) and Wallace (boy) after the NASCAR driver. Now we have a red nose pitt (girl) we named her Bristol after one of the race tracks. So find something you like and then find a name that fits with it.
