I have a cold and there's stuff in my throat that is keeping me from singing. I really need to be able to sing tonight because it's the opening night of the Christmas concerts that I am in. (And I have 2 tomorrow!) Please help! I've exhausted everything I know to do! These are professional concerts and I really don't want to stick out because I can't control my voice! And I don't want to mouth it because then I might as well not be there.

You've waited a long time to do something about this, but it isn't too late

Stop talking now. Do some light warm-ups before each concert, but avoid all other talking or singing. Continue this "not talking except to do some light warm-ups once a day" thing until your holiday concerts are over.

Drink water all the time. In choir we used to say if you aren't peeing clear every half hour, you're not hydrated well enough. The water doesn't touch your chords, but all the water in your system get's them more moistened in a roundabout way. I also put a little lemon juice in my water bottle. Also drink some warm tea with honey; the heat and honey help your throat as well.

Gargle with salt water twice a day.

Sleep. Let you body rest as well. You'll need those ab/diaphram muscles to keep projecting, and if your voice gets better but you're exhausted, it won't be a good situation.

Get some cough drops with either (or all) vitamin C, echinacea or zinc. If you are hoarse because you are or were sick, these herbs quicken healing time. If you are hoarse from over use of your voice, just get the vitamin C ones (its good for energy and the other stuff in the cough drops will be soothing for your throat). Take these throughout the day, though not within the hour before the show (the medicine on your throat will feel unnatural and awkward while speaking/singing).

Even if tonight you aren't 100%, keeping up with this regimen over the next couple days of concerts you should see continued improvement. Break a leg.

Hi!
Do you have a throat doctor? I have singer friends who have had to do last minute emergency tactics which included all the ordinary ones and then went to the doctor to get their throats, etc ... sprayed ... It works.

Also, do you have a little tape recorder?

Warm up a little and then just tape a little ... you might see that it is in good enough shape to not worry .... it is possible that your ears are stuffed too, so be sure you do not listen, except to the tape ... as you know , we cannot hear ourselves sing or speak anyway ... so try to not try, and see how it works.. Good luck and do get some rest and get rid of that cold!!!

do no longer drink something with a good type of citrus or sugar. ward off any beverages that are ice chilly or somewhat warm. something that worked for me contained in the previous replaced into lukewarm water with sea salt, with a touch bit lemon squeezed into it (even with the undeniable fact that, I hadn't been ill for 2 weeks earlier (i'd purely been ill for a pair of days, with no longer something severe)). ward off speaking, whispering, yelling, and so on., and do not sing something which will blow out your voice. Is there any way you need to seek for suggestion from from the guy heading up the auditions and note in case you need to audition later contained in the week? if you may attempt this, i'd recommend it, purely to furnish your voice yet another day or 2 of relax.

Sing some of your songs, if your voice is that bad try to find a way to sing it maybe in a different range. Otherwise drink some wine! it really does the trick and then drink water.

First eat some Jalapenos that will clear up your cold, and then hot honey, lemon, and water works wonders. Make sure you don't drink any soda, oh and mangos can help to if the honey and lemon dosn't work.

I know some professional opera singers... Drink Water, Tea, Lemon Juice, and Honey... if you're over the legal age, ONE shot of scotch, mixed in with the other liquids... don't take multiple shots, we don't need a drunk singer...

I would suggest not talking and epspecially don't drink milk. My high school choir teacher always said before we sang to not drink any.

If you do actually gargle salt water, use 1/8 tsp. of salt or less per glass of water.
