Or she shakes her long ish ears to wake us up at night. Yeah, after 3 kids we don't sleep very soundly. Lately she has been shaking her ears in the middle of the night and wants to go out. How do we break her of this habit? If we ignore her, will she pee in the house? We take her water away around 9, let her out around 11, she goes to doggie day care 2 or 3 days a week, she is healthy. Any suggestions please? No she can't stay out all night and the kids are not home any more to let her out either. She cries all night if put in her crate- every night. Help?

If I understand this right, I think you should take her out. What else is there to say here? She's probably just shaking her ears because she just woke up, and has to pee.

Crate training is the best, but you have to be consistent with it. We have 9 dogs and we foster dogs from the local humane society. We use creates for all dogs whenever we are not at home and at night. Some dogs do whine when first getting used to a crate. We use treats to train them to go into there crates. Our dogs only have to hear the lid come off the treat jar and they are in their crates. The foster dogs get to be the same way after we have them for a short while. If they are trained this way, they will get used to the crate and treat it as their very own spot to go. The crate should be used always when you are not at home and at night. It will take time for the dog to get used to this, but it will be much better for the dog and for you if you take the time to do this type of training. We deal with many dogs as fosters and this does work for all dogs if they are trained this way. Some people think this is cruel for the dog, but they come to think of the crate as their space. It keeps them out of getting into anything that is dangerous for them when no one is around to watch them.

If this is recent behavior..does hse potty if let out in the middle of the night or just look around..if she's pottying and is an adult I'd get her checked out to make sure she doesn't have a urinary problem...if no problem and she's only whining to get out or attention than either get yourself a doggie door so she let's herself out or train her not to whine..but that'll require time and patience... If you're too tired to train her cause of having three kids, please find her a forever home that can spend the time to work with her.

i think you should crate train at night that is the best method and get one of the cage that have the bottom that pulls out so just in case of a mistake its easy to clean up....it will probably take a little while for the dog to get used to the crate . i think its easier when you give them a treat while your putting them in the crate and then they will just walk in the cage and you can just toss them a treat and they will get used to it....i also recommend ignoring the dog when they whine or bark because if you get up every time then they think its okay . i hope this helps

I thnk that you are doing everything right. I would have suggested taking her water away before bed. I guess you have to try to not let her out during the night and see what happens.

If this is a behavior that has just recently started, then I would suggest taking her to the vet. She might have a urinary tract infection that makes her have to "go" in the middle of the night.

dont crate her at night, that is just cruel... put her bed in one of your rooms.. mainly your room... dont let her out when she whines, just ignore her, and let her pee in the house in the night.. and then you disapline her for peeing.... she will eventually stop whining and get sick and tired of whining everynight.. its like a child, it takes about three days for them to figure out they are just going to be ignored.

take her water away earlier, you didnt mention what kind of dog, she could have a bladder infection that is causing her to need to go more, talk to your vet, they should be able to reccomment something
