They should pay to repair the phone, if possible, or replace it at its current market value - if it was top-of-the-line when you bought it, but is now outdated, they do not have to buy you the current top-of-the-line model. In other words, they should replace what they broke, but you cannot expect to profit from their innocent mistake.

If you have insurance on the phone, then it's a moot issue. If you were being careless with the phone, then you share the blame. Otherwise, yes I would say that they are responsible for the damages. However, I know that if you were to sue them in small claims court, you would NOT be entitled to the cost of a new phone, but you would get the "depreciated value" of your phone. Basically the amount that you could have sold it for, used. It sucks, because you have to buy a new phone to replace it. But since you got use out of the phone (depending on how long you owned it), you can't get the full value of a new phone.

Absolutely not! It was an accident. Why was your cell in a place where this could happen. You should keep your cell on your body at all times. Your lucky some one didn't make long distant calls on it also. You can open the cell, and using your "hair dryer" on low, and away from the cell, about 2-3 feet, and slowly dry it out. It should work, this will work if you had dropped it in the toilet! So I hope you still have the cell and that this just happened, if not, suck it up, that's life. Merry Christmas

If it was an honest accident then no.
If the co-worker is any kind of friend or colleague they would offer to at least have it looked at for repair.
Saying that, it would probably be cheaper to buy a new one.
Forcing someone to do an act of ambivalence usually ends up with antagonistic results.
Accidents do happen.
If they don't then they should not be patronized with.

Do you work at a bar? I want a job where we get to drink beer... :) Joking.
It depends on the situation, but I would think they should at least split the cost of a new phone if it no longer works due to them spilling the beer.

If your friendship with that person is important, no. If the phone is not ruined, no. If that person is important to your future career, no.
Since most people upgrade cell phones frequently and you probably would, too, I suggest you just take it as an opportunity to upgrade. Perfect excuse.

They should offer out of courtesy - however, isn't it equally a bit rude to have your phone on the table when out with people? To me it sort of says "I sooo don't want to be with you that if this sucker rings I'm going to answer it no matter who calls".

nicely i like to maintain my cellular on vibrate... case in point this morning my telephone rang and it became great loud, i became form of embarrassed. yet... my CFO, she constantly has her cell telephone on and while it earrings I constantly tell her while the telephone is ringing, because of the fact we don't use our land line at artwork for inner maximum calls... so while a cellular earrings, it in many cases skill that's a private call OR that somebody has tried to realize us at our table and we did no longer answer, hence they use the cellular to realize us rather :-) No it is not rude, yet while it is not probable meant to be there, then they could desire to be greater respectful and use the vibrate determination... :)

I'd say it depends on the circumstance, but usually yes, if the phone is ruined.

Depends.
Was it enough beer that it shorted your phone? Then yes.
If it is something that you can wipe off and your phone is not at all ruined, then no.
