The best way to get rid of fleas is to treat the yard, the house, the animals and anything the animals sleep on (beds, towels,etc.). Then I would recommend Frontline or Advantage for your pets as year round prevention. If you get topical fea medicine wait two days after bathing them before putting it on them. Warning: the Advantix brand is not safe for cats at all. Even if you put it on your dogs and your cats come in contact with it, it can be deadly to the cats. So beware. It isnt a bad product but just dont use it if you have cats. Also I have seen a lot of reactions, especially in older cats, to the generic Walmart brand flea medicines. So use caution with those products as well. My parents 9 year old persian had a bad reaction to one Walmart brand flea medicine. I told them not to use it and they did, and if I hadnt been there he probably wouldnt be alive. Within minutes of putting it on him he started vomiting and yowling in pain. I had to rush him into the bathroom and scrub him thoroughly to get it all off of him. He came out of it okay and now my parents use frontline. Just do some research before using flea meds just to be safe. It is well worth it though.

Also Frontline usually has good specials through your vet (like by 6 months get 1 month free) so check around.

You have to remember that if you are treating your animals for fleas, you have to treat your house too. They hang out in carpet, furniture, bedding, so although you've treated your animals, another crew that is waiting patiently for a meal climb aboard.

The first step: I use Bragg Organic Apple Cider Vinegar. You can buy this at your grocery store in the health food section. I give them a nice bath with regular shampoo (not medicated). I condition them, just like you would your own hair. Then they get a dip in the Apple Cider(watch eyes and noses) and rinse with just water. Let them dry. Then I apply the Advantage to the back of their neck. If you don't want to use Advantage or you animals are too young, you can just do the bath and dip or apply the vinegar with a cotton ball. This works well if you have a cat that objects to having a bath.

I try to only give them one dose of Advantage, and will only give them a second dose a month later if fleas are really persistant. My vet doesn't advise prolonged use.

Just remember, you have to treat your house, this is very imporatant. Wash their bedding, your bedding, vacuum carpets, furniture, flooring, etc...where ever they sleep, lay or just hang out. If you vacuum, throw the vacuum bag in the trash outside, do not leave it indoors. Continue to vacuum they're area's everyday until you notice the itching and chewing has stopped.

I also use the organic vinegar in their drinking water. I put one teaspoon to 5 cups of water. Now if you are just starting out, use a tiny bit to start 1/4 tsp, for a few days. Dogs have great noses so they will smell the vinegar, gradually increase every few days. This helps to prevent fleas too, must be it changes how the smell or taste to them. Also reduces acidity in urine so it doesn't burn your lawn.

This is what I have done to help my dogs with a flea problems since they were born. It seems to work for them. Mind you they are now 5 years old, not little by any means, and weigh in at 97 and 133 pounds. Good luck, if you choose to try it, I hope it helps.

i don't know if this works but you can try it. Bring your dog to a lake or something then get a bit of sponge and stick it on the dogs nose then make your dog go deep into the water until his whole heads underwater. The fleas should have gone onto the sponge so take the sponge off the dogs nose and throw it away. Or you could just get the flea spray!!!

Get some flea medicine. I had the same problem but once I put them on flea medicine it helped. I also got some flea spray that was good to spray around the house and outside. This also helped with the problem. They also have special flea shampoo or flea collars you can try this too.

Go to your local vet and ask for his recommended brand of flea product. The new ones go on the animal between the shoulder blades. You do not need to bomb the house or spray the rugs. When you go, just make sure you have the weight of each of the animals. My vet uses Front Line. The fleas will ALL be gone in about one week.

You can use the drops like "Advantage" the flea will literally jump off of your pets. For your carpets sprinkle Borax its supposed to work like a pesticide the fleas eat it and it kills them. Use it like a "carpet fresh" Sprinkle it down and then wait a while and vacuum it up. You can get it in your laundry detergent aisle of the supermarket. It worked for me! Click the link below it will show you it really works for fleas :)

put a flea collar on him... and you have to take them outside, get a flea powder for your carpet (if you have any) then take em in one by one and bathe them with flea shampoo (this will be tough with the cats). if you can do it in a room with not carpet. Then put the collar on your dog.
Good luck!
p.s. I went through the same thing

you need to spray down your yard try going to your local hardware store and ask for the best spray for your yard. then ask for a spray that you can spray on your furniture to kill the fleas inside and vacuum like crazy and then use a good flea spray on all of your animals there is a really good one but i cant remember what it is called off the top of my head but it is in a blue spray bottle this may sound confusing but it is your best shot at getting rid of those pesky critters

Get his weight and take it to the pet shop and let them give you a tube of frontline and tell you how it works.
