WTF? first answerer dodges the question, WSIDR (aha! now I know what that acronym stands for) answers it unequivocally? Somewhere hell is freezing over.

we are born sinless (and if we don't believe in god we get the added bonus of never being besmirched by sin).

We are not born sinless. Sin is not something you do; it is a condition of the heart. We are not born "loving God above all else and our neighbor as ourself." A baby thinks only of him/herself. You might think that is unfair -- it's just a baby! That is why we baptise infants, to begin the process that will change their heart towards God.

We do not carry the sins of our forefathers in the sense that they are our own. We bear the burden of their consequences. Such examples might be not caring for the environment, or the huge US budget deficits, or a child abused by a parent...

As for whether or not all young children who die will go to heaven, the Bible doesn't say. But the Bible does say, "Baptism saves you." (1 Peter 3:21). So rather than being unsure of a child's eternal fate and relying solely on God's mercy, it makes sense to baptise them and also rely on the certainty of God's promise.

We are born sinless because we don't learn everything from our parents. If we did, then we would be carrying the sins.

3. That we are born of sin?
4. That we are born *because* of sin?
5. That we are born *into* sin?
6. That to sin is in our nature?
7. That a sin is relative for each individual?
8. That sinning does not exist?
Let's expand on this question before you get a defiite answer. Define sin... Define what you believe makes more sense... Because I'd love to hear your opinion on this as well.

Haha sweet, there goes the lie of the original sin, oh wait, now the whole Christian faith has gone down.

Good Job.

Eze 18:2 Ezekiel, I hear the people of Israel using the old saying, "Sour grapes eaten by parents leave a sour taste in the mouths of their children."
Eze 18:3 Now tell them that I am the LORD God, and as surely as I live, that saying will no longer be used in Israel.
Eze 18:4 The lives of all people belong to me--parents as well as children. Only those who sin will be put to death.

Ahh, the age-old "Original Sin" question! One of my biggest problems--out of many--with some of the doctrines of fundamental Chrisitanity is that of Orignal Sin, that states we are all born into sin becaue of what Adam and Eve did in the Garden of Eden. Well, I say: "Two things here, people." One: The Genesis story is merely a myth (based on other, EARLIER myths) that was told to convey a meassage; it's obviously NOT history, and it is absurd to take it literal. TWO: Look at the smiling, trusting face of a newborn baby and shake your finger at it and say: "You are born in sin!"
Doesn't work, does it? No, we are born a "blank slate" (table rase) and we decide through our actions whether or not we are sinners.

The Bible doesn't teach infant baptisim. No child goes to hell (or anywhere else other than Heaven). Once a child has attained the age of accountability, roughly around 13 for most people, then he or she is responsible for his or her actions. Those who are child-like never reaches this age. We are not born sinless, but the Grace of God covers us until we are able to reject it or accept it.

One thing I've always wanted to know from Christians, if we are born sinless, but cannot go to heaven unless we are baptized. what happens in the case of infant death? Or stillborn? Hell for the babies, because they weren't capable of accepting a lie... Lucky them
