One might say that god wrote the bible in terms that primitive men could understand. And that is why its stories and descriptions are laughable to anyone with a high school education today.

Okay, let's say you're right.

In that case wouldn't it behoove God to appear again, and give us a new bible? I mean, I'm sure the bible was easy to believe in 2000 years ago. But now it's not.

And that's not our fault. We're smarter now. It's not as easy for us to believe in the bible now. Why doesn't god clear this up for us?

Don't you agree that by all rights, god should in fact, give us an updated, factual bible, that does not contradict what we know of science and history? And if you think he shouldn't, why not?

Isn't it a dirty trick for him to play on us, allowing us to see facts that disprove his word, and then expecting us to believe it?

I'm a former southern Baptist, Recon. I'm well aware of what faith and "god's love" feels like. I didn't "choose" to become an atheist. The facts however, will not allow me to be otherwise.

For those saying "prove it"...

Uhm... ok. Noah's ark didn't exist. It is impossible. The earth was not created in 6 days. The earth is not 6000 years old. We KNOW this. It is not conjecture. If you don't know this, then that is your shortcoming, not mine.

Recon, feel free to email me or comment on my 360 page, if you're interested. And yes, I enjoyed being a Christian also. I really do miss being one, at times. As I said, however, I did not become an atheist by "choice".

Ok, you just claimed that God writing the Bible is clearly false. Prove it!

I believe, & the Bible teaches, that the Bible was "penned" by men but God inspired these men.
I'm not trying to be rude here or manipulative but you can't understand this until you become a Christian.
The closest you will get to understanding is that when you do something wrong & feel guilty inside.

Sorry, I know this sounds pompous and arrogant coming through text, but I am being very honest & ....well, you need to beleive whatever you want. Just seek the truth in an unbiased manner...as I try to do too.

Edit 1
I cannot get past my experience. I have had a good one. I find following Jesus quite fulfilling & enjoyable, fun too. Do you live in Ohio? We could talk sometime, if you are an adult.

Edit 2
A six day creation is interpretation. The hebrew word for "day" can either mean a 24 hour period or an age. The hebrew makes no distinction...therefore it is based on interpretation. Science helps clear that up...unless of course God created everything at a point of maturity, thus showing age.

Noah's ark, I don't know, archaeology discovered that the walls of Jericho did fall out...that was pretty impressive. Whether Noah's ark is true or false may take time....so give it some time.

BEWARE: of mixing fact with interpretation...we all do this. That is why I ask questions to botanists, and other scientists...I want to know the facts. And I am a Christian who also has trusted in Christ.

Edit 3
I sent you an email. And who forced you to become an Atheist? Or are you just seriously doubting?

Wow, You said a lot.
And you seem very true and you are using your head as far as what you know to be true.
Now, what I propose to you is something many know to be true.
There are facts, science to up hold the bible. Even Noah's ark.
There are no contradictions in the bible. Any I have heard are absurd and totally taken out of context. How can you say the bible was 'easy' to believe 2000 years ago?
Also, are we smarter now? Have we evolved? Just because we have more technology does that make us smarter? Do we not still have wars? Starvation? Hate?
The bible isn't factual? It is a historical document one can research if interested. You were baptist, did you read the bible? I'm in shock.

ok, the first ingredient i visit address is the indisputable fact that the Bible became written by using a unmarried, fat homophobe. no longer authentic. The Bible has 2 Testaments that were written many centuries aside, so no unmarried human would have authored it. The Bible is a range of books and letters written by using many alternative human beings whom supposedly had the "preparation" of God. no longer that i have self belief a damned note of it. i have self belief that those who blindly keep on with the Bible are both brainwashed or do exactly not understand a thanks to imagine for themselves. I do agree, although, that the authors of the Bible were really homophobic and customarily incorrect about an excellent many stuff. although the fact you're making about how human beings must be dealt with rather at the same time as "maximum critically" it comprises their "sexual orientation" is only selfishness and bigotry on your section. Why ought to human beings accept preferential remedy, or accept swifter get admission to to fairness because of a few thing? would not the mere concept of fairness avert everybody having particular get admission to to it? human beings must be dealt with both in spite of ANY condition. it is the way I take care of human beings. I stay for the day that one and all prejudice is lengthy previous from the international. and ultimately I do have self belief you once you assert that homosexuality is a function of genetics. I do have self belief that persons are born that way and that it really is inaccurate for everybody to discriminate adverse to human beings using sexual orientation. I help the repeal of the "do not ask, do not tell" militia coverage and that i have countless "gay" friends. each aspect want to go back to the mutually valuable contract that such issues as race, sex, colour, creed, sexual orientation, or some thing else for that remember are thoroughly beside the point. have you ever?

Okay. It was 20 years ago. I was in my twenties, and wondering about the rest of my life(here and now, and in the here-after).

Everyone i spoke with agreed that certain "feel good" scriptures were inspired. "Love your neighbor" "Judge not, lest you be judged" "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you"--these verses were always accepted by the skeptics as inspired. "Sure, I believe that Jesus said that...and that...and that too, yea."
However, when confronted with "hard' scriptures from the very same gospels, they would balk.
(Straight is the way? and narrow is the road that leads to eternal life??? Nah, nah man,,,not THOSE verses...Jesus would never say that...S ay WHAT??? No man comes unto the Father but by Me???
NO WAY, sis...Jesus is one COOL cat and he loves EVerybody.

He would never say he's the only way.
Oh really.
What about those verses above that they agreed with? Same gospel. Some even in the same pages. What, if you agree, then it's inspired, if you don't then it's not?
Paleeze.
The reason you chafe at the reliability of the translators is simple...you want to believe what you want to.
How about this...there are plenty of sources to go to and learn the original languages for yourself.
Surely a book with so many promises and warnings deserves your
utmost attention and study.
Learn greek and hebrew, if you REALLY WANT to know for sure.
Then, you can never say, "Well, those translators..."

God is the same yesterday, today and forever...man can change his mind in a moments notice but not God . Society can change the rules around to accommodate what they believe whats right and what wrong but God is steadfast. The Bible has been pro- ven over and over by generations as the living word of God for reproof and instruction.

>an updated, factual bible, that does not contradict
>what we know of science and history?

Archeology continually has been confirming the Biblical account.
Likewise, history that is being recovered, substantiates the Scriptures.

As for "science", it keeps changing every few decades, or every few years, or every few weeks.

You, with your infinite mind and full knowledge somehow think that God, with His finite mind, should update what He has said?

The Bible shows the human frailties, it shows human nature has not changed in 6000 years.

I love it when people say "what we know of science and history" when all the Berkley professors Say that everything they were taught is wrong and there has to be some inteligent design.
Have you just heard that there are facts that disprove themselves in the Bible and just regurgitating it or have you studied the Bible yourself? When I say study, I mean in context. Not taking one verse here and one verse there. Sure there are all kinds of things that sound stupid if you don't read them in context.

I believe there are the words of God in the Bible just as there are the views and words of men in it! It has been manipulated and altered by some to suit what they deem the truth.

Try reading the Quran, the final revelation from God. It has been saved from the alterations associated with the Bible and it points to great scientific truths. It is the answer to all your questions.

Read and be guided back to the straith path.
