Many times it means there's someone else they're wanting to try out. Other times it just means they are feeling smothered & need time away to get a clear head to think about the relationship. Either way, time apart usually can be a bad thing. It's best to try to talk things out together.

He is imature. He is playing with your heart to see your reaction. He needs to grow up. He was adult enough to enter into a marriage he should been grown up enough to work on it. Tell him "OK let's take a break, I love you so much I will respect your decision and go with it", and walk away and see what you get. If he comes crawling tell him if he ever plays with you again like that it is over. You deserve in a marriage to be thought of as his best friend, not a chew toy that can be spit out. Tell him marriage is a full time job, it takes effort all the time but it should be worth it and if it does not seem like it is then that should have figured out before. It was called dating.

Usually when someone say that when the going gets tough is b/c they want to take the easy way out instead of taking the time to resolve their problems.OR they want to break up and they dont know how else to tell you so they say they need time apart but when the times up they dont come back.

Because they are too weak to figure out their problems and just give up.
When people say "we need time apart" it usually means the end of the relationship. I've never been on a "break" that didn't end up in a break up.

When life gets tough and confusing and you don't keep in touch with your authentic self, we want to run away during hard times. When we don't deal with the real issues, and try to sweep them under the rug, we get stressed and anxious when it comes time to face reality. In most cases, its easier to not deal with the problems then to do the foot work to solve the problems. Its about the worth of a relationship that will determine the energy and time put in it.

It depends on the situation. I've said it only once and It was in anger. I was upset at my boyfriend and he is the type that shuts down and just doesn't talk hoping that things will smooth over that way, well that just makes me angrier. I said we needed a break just to get a reaction from him....to see what he was thinking. I never meant it literally! It got a huge reaction and his feelings came pouring out!!!

Anything from "not sure about the relationship anymore" to "I need a booty call that isn't you", separations always end in divorce, I personally never saw a couple "separate" and then get back together and say "sheeew, all we needed was a break huh", they separate, then divorce.

When a person says we need time apart it simply means this:
"I've already found someone else".
It doesn't mean they cheated, or they are f-ing the other person, or that they even talked to them. It just means they've already decided you're not the one.

do you mean time apart like moving out time apart? or just time apart like a few minutes or hours? when i say that to my husband it's usually if we are arguing, and i only say it when i need time to calm down so that i don't say something that i'm gonna regret. but usually when someone says that, then maybe they are doubting or regretting something.
