You should be feeding it Kitten food. Make sure the cat food you buy says on the label it is kitten food, not a all life stage food. the first ingredent doesnt have to be meat. On the ingredents it is listed by weight not volume. Since any kind of meat is mostly water it will probably be listed first. Than you will notice a grain after that on the list. Just make sure the meat is listed up in the top 3 or ingredents. Plus kitten food has the most nutrients need for a growning kitten. That is why you feed it kitten food!

Because she is only 4 months old, you should be feeding her kitten food. It has special nutrients and minerals specifically designed to help your kitten grow healthy and strong. Typically you should feed all cats kitten food until they are 1 year of age.
I use the brand Natural Choice for both kittens, outdoor, indoor, and adult cats. They also have a weight management formula for fat cats.
Generally speaking, if your kitten was on her own she would be eating MEAT, MEAT, MEAT, and some grass.
Chicken, Turkey, Salmon, Tuna, Whitefish, Shrimp, Crabs, etc. are all good choices.
Avoid kitten/cat foods that contain lots of whole grains or fillers. The main ingredients should be MEAT. Whole grains and other fibers can cause your kitty to end up with a Urinary Tract Infection-which is no fun for her or you.

Meat, meat and meat is the cat's natural diet. When a cat eats a rodent he gets lean muscle meat, fat, liver, heart and gizzard - that is a completely balanced diet.
So most of the posters go along with that. It is important in choosing a cat or kitten food that the first TWO ingredients be meat. The third (for dry food) will be a wholesome filler such as brown rice, millet, oats, pea etc. No wheat grain and no corn.
"Kitten" foods do NOT contain special minerals or vitamins not in other cat foods.
You can go to www.petfooddirect.com and pull up any commercial cat food and click on "details" and read the ingredients for yourself before selecting a food for the kitten.
Compare any food you are considering with Eagle Pack, Solid Gold, Natural Balance, Nature's Organic and Nature's Logic. These are only a few of the high quality foods available to you. The first two ingredients in these are high quality meat protein (not by-product meat).

Cat food would be a good place to start. You can go to your local petstore, Natural Choice is a good brand. Be sure to read ingredients, the first ingredients should be some type of meat (in dry food it will be _____ meal) as cats are carnivores. While the canned food has more meat, it also has more preservatives. It is probably best to do a mixture of canned food and dry food (the stuff in the bag). The dry food helps to keep their teeth clean while they eat it. My kitty gets only dry food, with canned food occasionally as a treat.

This is a good question, we were advised not to give our Kitten cat food until she is about 1 year old, so they recommended Purina Kitten chow or the IAMS Kitten food. (My Kitten is almost 4 months as well) (By Cat food I mean "adult cat" )
Hope this helps
