Well... One theory goes that these would have come in handy when the Holy Family fled to Egypt. They had to support themselves somehow. We know what gold is, basically money. Myrrh is a resin that was a component of incense and perfume, and was highly prized in antiquity, worth more than gold by weight . It's also considerably lighter than gold. So gold would be cash, Myrrh more like an ETF that Joseph and Mary could use while in exile.
Frankincense is also a resin, and is used in rites as a purification symbol. Back in these days, it is conceivable that it was used to purify dwellings as well, which comes in handy after childbirth.

not impossible, I suppose, but improbable.
Perhaps it might have been used to buy some better tools for the family's carpenter shop.
Or, more likely, the money may have been used to pay expenses for their trip to and time in Egypt.
Or the money may have gone to the poorer.
Silver??
merth??
Try re-reading the actual passage!!
And look up the significance of each of the gifts.

I think the story is trying to indicate the special presence of jesus, why would kings give expensive gifts to a poor new born commoner of low social status!?

The Wisemen paid homage to Jesus with gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh as a token of their respect. No one really knows what became of those gifts. Maybe Mary and Joseph sold the gifts to finance their trip to Egypt when they escaped Herod's wrath.

I don't know what happened to those gifts, but they were given out of respect and hommage to the New Born King by the three wise men. It was the same act of respect and hommage that would be given to a prince or king, except this time it was the King of the Universe.
God bless.

For one thing, his parents had to make a sudden trip to Egypt and live there for some time. The gifts no doubt facilitated that.
