I read that of the 600 personnel the US State Dept. in Baghdad we were able to find 6 who spoke some Arabic. Foreign language in American schools is in fact FOREIGN. It's apparently true in Britain too.

While its a very good idea that anyone coming to the Uk should learn to speak English, you have to consider how the UK is portrayed elsewhere, quite possibly as a land full of their fellow countrymen/women, so therefore they don't need to learn the language! There is an ongoing debate on Spain about ex pats not learning Spanish, but the idiots who market Spain's to the Brits back in Blightly, tell them openly, they don;t need to learn the language as everyone speaks English! Wrong, but there again, the marketing idiots will say anything to get a sale from the gullible!
You also have to remember that the UK is part of the EU, so technically, everything should be in all EU languages to begin with so as not to discriminate against anyone.....

Your beloved Government as allowed uncontrolled
immigration by people of which the majority are here only for economical reasons (I.E To live off the British taxpayer. Most of them are not interested in learning English so when officialdom meets up them is the reason the translators are needed .As usual its the British taxpayer that's gets MUGGED again.

Everyone should learn and speak english in this country. I have a friend that said when his Grandparents came over form Germany (LEGALLY!) They would no longer speak German but learned english and were proud to be called American citizens and speak the language. They counted it a privilege to be here. It should be a requirement that you be fluent in english to get a citizenship here. I was in Wal Mart a while back and they had toys that talked in SPANISH! And they were playing SPANISH music over the store! This is an AMERICAN store! I have no problems with skin color, but be here legally and do not expect to be pandered to because your "minority". You ain't no friggen minority!

You have a point there. Yep... if you go to stay in one place, learn the language of that place... that is more than obvious!. BUT PLEASE... if you go somewhere else, do not expect anyone else to speak to you in English.

You are correct. We have the same thing in the US. It is called "multiculturalism", but it is really just an attack on our common culture. People can come to the US to visit, or they can migrate here (legally), but if they decide to stay, it is incumbent on them to learn our language. Not the other way around.

Always ask yourself :qui bono? Or in English: who benefits? Obviously, those people who want to fragment our society are in favor of multiculturalism. Divide and conquer.
