Today in heading up to another town with my best friend. we're doing some xmas shopping before it gets too crazy. ive been on a diet for a year now and i have lost a total of 75 lbs. in doing this, i was a big guy who loved food. now, being 75lbs lighter, i am so paranoid as to what i eat and how many calories i take in. in a sense, i hate to use this term, but in all honesty, im obsessed with losing weight at a HEALTHY rate. Today, we're going to be eating at a chinese buffet. by the way, i LOVE chinese food. my question is, Should i drink a lot of water before i go eat so i can get fuller faster??? since it IS a buffet, i dont want to over do myself.. if water isnt the key, how can i control and not over eat??? please let me know.

Congratulations on your weight loss!
Try to relax and enjoy the food you choose at the buffet. Eat slowly, savoring each bite. Drinking a lot of water does help fill you up.

As for specific buffet choices, avoid the fried stuff (crispy rangoons, egg rolls, wings) and load up on vegetable dishes with a little bit of lean meat. Choose steamed rice instead of fried rice, and plan to go through the buffet line only once. It's the repeat visits that will blow your diet.

If you do end up "cheating," forgive yourself. It's only one meal - it won't do 75 pounds worth of damage! You can get back on your healthy diet plan the next day. Good luck and good health to you!

water always makes me fuller when i drink a glass. it also makes me have to go to the bathroom a lot if i have no food in my stomach at the time.

on oprah dr. oz said that if we eat slower our bodies will tell us we are full. also on another show he said that chinese food does not stick with you because of the high amount of sugar and fat in it. the carbs and the fried stuff convert into sugar and fat and we kinda absorb it or something and it doesn't give us a full feeling.

but basically i think the drinking will help also if you eat slower.

put your fork down between every bite; this helps you not to do the amerian shovel thing.

talk more. you cannot eat as much if you are talking.

sit on the inside of the table if it is a booth. so you will not want to make the other person get up a lot.

but basically you need to just say no. there will be times when you are hungry if you are naturally shrinking your stomach by eating less. eventually you will not be hungry but until then just ignore the stomach and drink water and eat an apple or some other fruit/veggie.

I really believe knowing that you may have a problem eating at the buffet is the biggest factor in this situation. I would suggest drinking a lot of water (chinese food is very salty anyways). If you are afraid you may over eat, maybe you could have a small salad before you go, too. Have confidence that you won't over eat, and try not to be influenced by your friends decisions at the buffet. Instead, maybe you could influence him/her in a good way!

no matter what you do, you will bloat from the chinese food, which could be from 1 pound to 3 pounds. i think maybe eating a snack before you go, and drinking water like you said will help you not gorge on the buffett. try your hardest to portion everything you put on your plate properly. but as long as you dont eat chinese everyday, im sure you wont gain back the 75 pounds, and you will stay totally healthy

p.s. congrats on loosing that much weight!! amazing!!

You've dieted for a year and have lost 75 pounds! Congratulations! Take it from a fellow dieter (two months, 20 pounds) whose dietician said this, "Good job, now go out and treat yourself to a good meal full of your favorites!" I think you'll find that you'll enjoy eating everything the buffet has to offer but, like me, you'll find yourself eating less of it due to the change in your eating habits.

Go ahead, have some fun today. You can start back up on your diet tomorrow!

simple, do what i always do! eat only with chopsticks! you take smaller bites, and therefor eat slower... by the time you've cleared the plate you'll be full ( also grab only a small appetizer plate, so that you can go fill it up twice and get the same amount or still less! ) good luck and great job! remember, though, that you can eat perfectly and still not loose weight if you don't exercise enough. try to walk faster than normal at the mall, that'll burn extra calories and justify a tiny indulgence!

You shouldn't go to the all-you-can-eat buffet. That's the answer. If you have done a 180 degree turn in your life and are obsessed with your eating/not eating.....losing weight....then you need help. It's great that you lost 75 lbs. in a year (I assume you needed to drop that amount?) but when you become obsessed, you have to get professional help.

NO BUFFETS!

drinking a glass of water beforehand sure couldn't hurt but don't think you can't have chinese without cheating just eat lots of vegetables and try to avoid the fried stuff and the dumplings.also you can't go wrong with the soup.

not only would I drink a lot of water first...I would even eat a small snack before hand...maybe yougart w/a banana..you know how you lost this weight...and what effort it took...Lost 23 pounds this year myself and we must be diligent...then at the buffet..just keep reminding yourself small servings...chew thoroughly...pick foods that have lots of vegies..and remember that they load everything w/a ton of salt....enjoy but be good...you CAN do this!!
