the insurgents in Baghdad? Why not just declare Marshall law in Baghdad, set a curfew, & put all US forces in Baghdad & weed out the bad guys? By taking US troops out from the Sunni triangle/W. Iraq the insurgents won't be able to fight the US in those areas anymore (it's the presence of US troops in those areas that causes all the problems). If they want to fight the US they'll have to come to Baghdad where US troops will be ready for them. All the fighting would be confined to Baghdad, most of the Baghdad population would leave temporarily, & US forces would be able to wipe out the insurgents in Baghdad and hold onto the most important piece of Iraq which is Baghdad. The Iraqi National Army would take the place of the US in all other parts of insurgent plagued Iraq outside of Baghdad where they'd use their skills as Arab Muslims to defeat the Arab Muslims insurgents. Game over, war won?

The point I'm trying to make hear is that the US should just give this war to the Iraqi National (Shia) Army. 1st by the US withdrawing from West Iraq/Sunni Triangle to Baghdad & then giving that area of repsonsibility to the Iraqi National Army. Then with over 50,000 US combat troops in Baghdad they US should be able to maintain order their until the Iraqi National army destroys all the insurgents outside of Baghdad and once they've won that part of the war the US can then withdraw from Baghdad and give it to the Iraqi national army. The only reason the US troops need to stay in Iraq is for the Iraqi national army to finish off the insurgents and to keep Syria & Iran out of Iraq. But I guess that is what the Baker/Iraq Study group is basically saying too? Also, the way this Iraq wars been going for the last 3 years armchair generals ideas might be just as good as anybody elses.

ANOTHER ARMCHAIR GENERAL HEARD FROM !
If only it was that simple .

Like asking all rapists to report to the hospital to have their offending organ removed .
That'll work , right ?

The trick to Iraq is to increase the number of police and soldiers. The proposed amount is too low. it would also decrease the joblessness that is plaguing Iraq.

Iraqi soldiers:
1/4 guarding the western boarder
1/4 guarding the eastern boarder
This would help cut off supplies to the insurgent and make it so the Iraqi soldiers would be less likely to see combat and therefore less likely to flee.
1/4 guarding key areas in Baghdad
1/4 holding key areas in the Sunni triangle

Police:
1/2 guarding the cities and roads outside Baghdad and the Sunni triangle.
1/4 of the police roaming the streets in Baghdad
1/4 roaming the streets in the Sunni Triangle
This should limit the fighting froim spreading.

U.S. troops
1/2 in Baghdad
1/2 in the Sunni triangle
to keep the pressure on the insergents.

Allied forces could be the ones on the roads supplying the U.S. and Iraqi forces and training the police and soldiers.

We tried that in Fallujah. We had control for a brief period (with a high body count) Bu we were soon forced to pull out again. So it didn't hold. Baghdad is the same way.

Also, our leaders are thinking he same way you are. Baghdad is the key. Well, Napoleon learned that lesson. You can capture a city, but that nowhere near what you have to do to WIN. he lost because he captured the city first. the Russians attacked him after regrouping in the countryside.

To Truly win, you need to control the ground in all of Iraq, all of the time. That would mean a lot more troops then we have right now.

The US isn't going to defeat anyone in Iraq -- they'll just have to pull out with perhaps some feeble attempt at face-saving, which won't fool anyone. They've won a battle here and there, but will never win the war.

They should force the Iraqis to start taking responsibility for their own destiny and maybe concentrate on setting up a perimeter around the borders to keep the Iranians, Syrians and others from making their way into the country.

We could put a solder on every street corner in Baghdad for the next 100 years. In one hundred years and one day it would be the same as it is now.

It is not a conventional war among two armies Rather it is a gorilla war where u can not differentiate between enemy and general public secondly only holding the Baghdad is not the issue instead it is a political issue and can be resolved by political solution.

This morning Paul Harvey said that the fighting has stopped while all sects were watching a soccer event on t.v., in which all sects were participating. I have heard before that it is a big deal to give the children soccer balls... It somehow unites them...Sounds simplistic, but hey, it could just work!!

Well you have a theory for sure, but if anybody knew the key to settling down a nation that has been fighting with itself for thousands of years we wouldn't be their.
