Ditz or Stupid, both means the same to me. It has nothing do with getting a joke. Girl, you could've roll his socks up wrong and you still would be a ditz.

Hopefully he means it as a joke. Ditz = ditzy , naive. Kinda like how they make fun of blondes; If he says that alot tell him that it hurts your feelings.

Well to me, if I were called a ditz I would assume he means I am an airhead, a dingbat, not thinking, etc. I would take it as an insult personally.

He has no respect for you mental abilities. Maybe you lack common sense, maybe you just do stupid things or ask stupid questions, maybe he just simply thinks you're dumb. Amazingly, it's not especially meant as an insult, but rather a descriptive trait that may come across negatively -- like "chubby".

i dont know why he calls you a ditz. Maybe it is just to build up his self esteem. I am trying to figure this one out on my own mine always calls me retarded which i am not! I think it is just their way of making themselves feel better

"Ditz" is an old term for "airhead." Not a compliment. Tell him he's a jerk and stay away from him. He isn't being nice.
