I heard there are some better programs then messenger. What are the best choices and can your messenger contacts be brought over.

I use Trillian - you can open aim, msn, icq, and Yahoo! messenger from one buddy list! It's amazing, but takes some time to get used to.

I have heard a ton of bad things about Trillian, so I never downloaded. I use Y!M most frequently, but I also love Skype for voice chatting. mIRC is wonderful as a chat client, too.

I use Trillian, it can connect to multiple networks at once (AIM, ICQ, MSN, Yahoo!, IRC, etc.). It works great and I love it!

If you want to use another software to IM but still want to use the MSN network, you can use

gaim
amsn
trillian

Or maybe a web client
meebo.com
