Yeah right! I am a private pilot(Helicopter), working on instrument training, by the time I finish up with my commercial training and about 600 hours of CFI or CFII, I would have spent about $50000, seriously. But I tell you what, it's a very fun, exciting, rewarding carreer! The Military is the only way to get free training, but I believe you have to be a Warrant officer and meet stringent health requirements to become a pilot, which means you may as well make a career out of the military.

If you are 13 you can join the Royal Canadian Air Cadets and if you follow the training you will have a free private pilots licence by the time your 19.There's no cost and some kids get paid togo to camp in the summer ta boot. Not sure if the US has a program like this.

You can use the GI Bill to fund pilot training at an acredited school. Of course the free part isn't exactly so, it requires your commitment to the armed forces. Right now in the National Gaurd, there is a 15k signing bonus, plus a 25k gi bill, and kickers dependant on the job you choose, so enough to get through the brunt of initial training.

In the military usually you need to be an officer to become a pilot or have gone enlisted to officer. The cut off age is usually 30 to 31 depends on if you get waiver. You can't have any medical conditions, never broken any bones and your vision must be nearly perfect. NO GLASSES. If you had PRK done by the military you can get a waiver but PRK and LASIK done outside the military..sorry no waiver given.
Oh...and Warrant Officers can't be pilots....most make warrant after being in the miliary almost 15 years and by then they are to old, there are no warrant officer pilots!
