Specifically, the rosie o'donnell on the view incident. she totally wan't trying to be insulting and didn't know what she said could be taken as insulting, but all kinds of people are up in arms and want barbara walters to make a public apology on her behalf and are boycotting the show--seriously, am I the only one who thinks this is ridiculous? and yes--call me whatever you want, I am not going to get offended whatsoever. I think other people should feel the same way. take it as it was meant. a joke. maybe an immature joke, innappropriate for national tv, but not meant in a purposefully hurtful way. does anyone else agree?

Yes! I'm so glad someone else thinks so. It's one thing to denounce someones race as inferior but come on, can't we joke around about our differences? Whatever happened to the good old days when it was just innocent fun to stereotype the Japanese as tourists with the cameras around their necks or if you're Jewish, you must have a big nose, or how if you're blond, you ain't too sharp. Oh, and it's a Christmas Party! Not a 'seasonal get together' or a 'year end celebration'. Geez!

Yes it has gone too far. OK maybe Rosie's statement was a little much, but people really need to get over it. There are much more important things to worry about. It's getting to the point where our language is becoming distorted because so many words are being seen as "politically incorrect." Aside from being overly malicious or intentionally biting, people should be able to call things as they are without being ripped apart. I see too many people crying like 5-year-olds (no offense to any 5 year-olds who may be reading this :p) over things that really do not matter in the grand scheme of things.

Rosie O' Donnell should make her own apology. Why should a distinguished news person such as Barbara Walters do her dirty work?
And no, it hasn't gone too far. Either we adapt to a rapidly shrinking world filled with differences or we fail.
Totally off subject: Cute kitty in the avatar Kuddlin! I have 2 myself and love them

I think that it's foolish to take offense where none was intended, but I also think that people should take care not to offend others. And I don't think we should get rid of political correctness because, although it seems like a minefield to some, the presence of political correctness acknowledges that there is discrimination in this world and that it's wrong.
See my answer to this question for more detail on why it's inappropriate to make fun of a language:

It has gone too far, but I also think Rosie's "joke" was in poor taste. After all, she made such a fuss over the Kelly Ripa - Clay Aiken thing, you'd think she'd be more careful.

I am not a fan of Rosie, however I do think that she was unaware that this would be offensive. It was childish jibber-jabber. She did apologiz, but no matter how sincere she 'sounded', she is going to make no attempt in the future not to do this again. That is where she is failing, IMHO.

I do. You can't say anything to anyone anymore. I don't really think they all get so upset. I think it's just for attention and a possible easy money lawsuit. It has gotten to the disgusting point. Poor everybody!

Yes...I definitely agree. People need to get tougher skins and not be so easily offended by everything! Life is WAY too short.

It's retarded and sad. People just have no sense of humour anymore. It's like they want to be victims. It's a pathetic expression of how powerless some people feel.

no she wasn't joking she was making a stand that she thinks everyone else should agree with, she was wrong and she should apologize for her idiotic statement, this has nothing to do with political correctness it has to do with a person who is overly sensitive to being gay
