if your hair is pulled too tightly back into braids or a ponytail it causes "stress alopecia" which means the strain of the pulling will yank the hairs out at the root.....also the ponytail holders that have metal on them can shred and rip hair causing it to break and that will thin it too........never use a plain rubber band on your hair to hold it back, always use the cloth/no metal type of ponytail holder.......they're much kinder to your hair.

Wearing your hair in a ponytail will cause breakage, which can make your hair feel somewhat thinner because you don't have as many long hairs, but most thinning is more a factor of aging. (I'm not saying you are old, but your hair is thickest in your teens and goes into a gradually decline through each decade after.) Hair tends to get thicker when you are pregnant, but then you lose the extra hair afterwards, which scares some women, but it's all a normal process. Severe thinning or baldness is not as common in women as in men, but some women are genetically predisposed to lose their hair, which is why there is Rogaine for women.

Only if your ponytail is pulled tight every time its in the ponytail. This is because when your hair is pulled taut at the roots you are forcing it against it natural growing direction of growth which causes the hair to break at the root. But you can wear it in a ponytail without worrying about hair lose if its not tight and you scalp is comfortable.
You can give yourself scalp massage a few minutes of the day each day. This encourages the flow of oxygen and blood to the hair follicles which helps with growth and thinness.

always keeping your hair in a ponytail can cause breakage but i don't think it can cause your hair to thin it is quit possible. wear your hair down sometime and wash it regulary and brush your hair often ( at least a 100 times a night, it makes your hair grow faster) My mother is a cosmatologist and hair dresser.
Good luck

No, its a myth. I have longer hair for a guy. I need to tie it back and wear a hat at work. I find myself doing this outside of work too, As its a habit now. Why i dont just cut it is beyond me. But 20 years and no sign of thinning or balding. Dont worry about it. Its all in the genes!

Yes, it stretches your hair from the roots. It is best to even it out with leaving it down as well.

Yes. Try parting it in different areas from time to time if you really don't want your hair down.
