Bottom line up front: In FEB 07, the update to the 30d is going to be released (?); is it the trend for all "outdated" models of the same line (20d, 30d) to lower in price?
Back ground: I'm deployed in Afghanistan right now (us Army). After 7 months as a combat platoon leader I've transitioned to a staff job--public affairs officer. As such, I've worked with a variety of photojournalist--TIME, etc....and, to my surprise; have become interested in (personal. No professional interest whatsoever) photography (after seeing some outstanding pictures!). I want to buy Canon EOS 20D but no company will ship to my firebase in Afghanistan. I could, however, have it shipped to a stateside friend. Should I wait until FEB 07 to purchase b/c the trend is lowered prices (see Bottom line up front.)?
I won't get back stateside until right before FEB 07 anyhow... Yeah, I know, it seems obvious to WAIT...but you know how it goes with boys and their toys--we want them now!

I think you should wait until Feb., and save some $ if applicable.
Sure, some of us are interested in hearing what a former combat platoon leader has to say, and if you were taking photos, they would make good photojournalism. Many years ago a former Soviet soldier who fought in Afghanistan did so, and it was a good read! Best of luck, and bring in 2007 with a bang!

Boys that age love cars and trucks while girls love princesses. Make sure it is bright and colorful and the pictures/objects are big enough that they can see them easily but can't reach up and pull them off (I lost a few mobiles that way until I learned to hang them higher).
