Almost all Christians believe God is a Holy Trinity, God the Father, God the Son (Jesus Christ), and God the Holy Spirit.
Mary is the mother of Jesus Christ, who is God the Son, and therefore can be addressed as the Mother of God.
This is similar to a commoner who marries a king, is called a queen, and becomes the mother of the next king. She also is entitled to the title Queen and Mother of the King even though she is not royalty.
Nobody two hundred, five hundred or a thousand years ago would have been confused about it. But this is hard for people to understand in these times where royalty and kings and queens are few and far between.
With love in Christ.

It is because Jesus is the second person of the Holy Trinity. There is God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. Jesus (God) was born of a human woman and became a man. Therefore, the woman that gave birth to Him is His mother, the Mother of God.

Because Jesus is an extension of God in another being. Since Mary gave birth to Jesus, and Jesus is God, Mary is the mother of God.

Catholics have self belief that Mary must be honored no longer worshiped. Any Catholic worshiping Mary does no longer understand Catholicism! The Hail Mary is a prayer that only describes how the Lord chosen her to mom the Son. The latter section soliciting for her to 'pray for our sins' is because she became assumed into heaven (as in, did not die) so she must be close with God. actually, Catholics pray by using the useless, no longer to the useless. everybody who fairly worships Mary isn't Catholic... playstation Catholics also call the Church 'mom' or the 'bride of Christ'.

This is a Catholic term and very misleading. God has no mother, otherwise His mother would be God. The term justly invites the scorn of Muslims, but it is not Biblical, it is a man made concept. Jesus was the eternal pre-existent Word of God, "and the Word became flesh" through the miracle of the incarnation. Mary gave birth to Jesus' humanity; not to His divinity

Because God and Jesus are considered the same person. God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit compose the Holy Trinity.
"Within Christianity, the doctrine of the Trinity states that God is a single being who exists, simultaneously and eternally, as a perichoresis of three persons (hypostases, personae): Father (the Source, the Eternal Majesty); the Son (the eternal Logos or Word, incarnate as Jesus of Nazareth); and the Holy Spirit (the Paraclete or advocate)."

Because it's not a literal interpretation. Mother of God means, Mother of Jesus, born of God. That is why we say "Holy Mary, Mother of God".

Because the Church believes the Blessed Virgin to be "Theotokos" - the God Bearer - Jesus is God the Son, Second Person of the Most Holy Trinity.
Jesus = The Word (logos)
The Word = God
"The Word became flesh and dwelt among us."

See, my mom is Catholic and that is also confusing to me. First the bible says to pray to no one other than God in the old testament. In the new testament it says to pray through Jesus. They also believe in the trinity, that God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit are three seperate entities....if so then how can Jesus be the same person as God and furthermore how could Mary be the mother of God, when in reality God has always existed. God has no mother or father. Yet Catholics pray to saints, to Mary, to Jesus, they use Priests to pray for them, basically they go to everyone except for God himself. I don't know, I've never understood that religion, but it is highly interesting and amazing to hear their choirs sing.
I'm sorry but the energy of God is way too powerful and way too much for a human being to handle. To say God was a mere human being is like putting him down. No human body could withstand even being in the presence of God, more less have him inside you. Basically we are all a part of God, because we were created by him and in his image/likeness so we are each made up of a peice of God. Perhaps Jesus' spirit was a larger part than the rest of us, but there is no way he could receive the entirety of God, therefore he wasn't God, just chosen to be more of God/God-like.

Mary was a virgin and Jesus was and IS holy.
Therefore, when we ask Christ into our lives, WE are made holy. We may not ACT holy, but we are MADE holy, with the blood of Jesus.
