I got my first cat in July. The people told me it was a boy. I don't know the difference. But lately on the back of my toilet I notice something that looks like blood or something. It's not thick, it looks like it's sprayed. That is where the cat sits a lot. I clean it everyday so I know it is coming from the cat. Please help.

Cats can spray. He is marking his territory. Go get him fixed first of all, and if yyou see blood he might have an infection or worse, so he really needs to go to the vet. And the vet will also beable to tell you if hes a boy or girl.

I also recommend a visit to the vet. Besides spaying/neutering, a good checkup on a regular basis helps them stay healthy. If your kitten is 6 months old, you bet he'll spray. If he's older/grown, he would have been marking territory already. This sounds different. It may be an intestinal thing or may have to do with what he's been eating. Sorry if this is overly graphic, but you did say he's your first cat. When you clean out the catbox, what you find should be solid and "well-formed". If it isn't, he may have diarrhea. They can have digestive trouble too, and that includes gas. Find a good vet, some good beginner cat books at the library, and bookmark some helpful sites like this one & Purina's "ask a mentor" section. You'll both be all set.

Yes, boy cats can spray. This is how they mark their territory. The best way to discourage this is to have the cat neutered; this means take it to the vet who'll give it a standard operation to be sure the cat will never be a father. It's a really good idea to do this anyway, because so many kittens are born all the time that there aren't enough homes for them, and lots of them die!

So, the best thing to do for your cat is to take it to the vet and have it neutered. It's not really expensive and it has all kinds of health benefits for the cat -- and it's best to do while the cat is still fairly young.

To my knowledge there is no other way to discourage spraying.

Yes, cats spray.

If kitty hasn't been neutered it's guaranteed that he'll spray.

If he's been neutered he may spray anyway, but he shouldn't be so compulsive about it.

The location makes me wonder if this isn't "spraying" in the usual sense of leaving a scent mark. Maybe kitty has learned to use the toilet but hasn't got his aim down pat.

Don't laugh, cats sometimes do learn to use a toilet. A few even learn to flush after themselves!

Yes a cat will spray, BUT he should not be spraying blood.
Please take him to the Vet ASAP as the cat may have a UTI which needs to be treated.
Also you should ask the Vet to neuter him.
If he's already started spraying having him neutered probably will not stop the spraying ( it may, but since he's already started he will probably continue )...but neutering him will greatly reduce the spaying and will also stop him from fathering unwanted kittens.

Cats do spray but not blood, they spray urine to mark thier territory or to attract a female. You need to get your cat to a vet and see why his is spraying blood.

It's not really a ' problem' with the cat, He's just marking ' his' territory, probably old enough now to mate too so he's trying to attract one. Only way I know to make him stop is to have him neutered.
